The girls in this path will have no idea John is sharing the dream with them, or even controlling aspects of the dream. They assume it is their own dream, and thus slowly become more and more audacious within the dream, thinking nobody else will know. I want to focus on this sort of mind break, and John acting as if he doesn't know anything about the dreams in real life.

In dreams, John has total control over anything physical - the location, the setting, their bodies, even their state of arousal, but not over their memories or personalities. He may also choose to share this power to them.
