Chapter 5 by AinBaum AinBaum

Do you find more Grass?

So much more than that

A few minutes later you have reached another place suitable for collecting tall grass. As you are undisturbed this time, the harvest goes well and quick, after maybe an hour or so you have a generous about which will surely be enough, even without checking.

As you spend more time (fruitlessly) on hunting you notice something strange, many ressource nodes are exhausted, at least these of a certain type, such as wood, stone or clay, thankfully tall grass seems not to be on that list. Anyways, you will away maybe two hours trying to get more edible meat, not that you need it, but meat and berries is better than just berries. At some point in the afternoon you come across a set of tracks, not that you really know something about such things, but even you can read these tracks, they're very visible and leave no doubt that whichever animal left them is rather severly wounded. Full of hope you follow the trail, with your inexperience in such thingss you guess that it is a deer or something similar, but defintely bigger than your single hare, or anything else you ever got. This never-before hunted animal size should still be possible though, you're more powerful than ever before, plus it seems to be wounded. Eventually you have followed the tracks to a ravine in the landscape, the trees have given way to meadows and the earth has given way to, well, no-earth. Normally the rope bridge across the ravine would be the most noteworthy thing, you're fairly certain your prey hasn't gone over it, but it's nevertheless still interesting to you, normally I say, as there is something far more important. On the other side of the bridge are figures, some dead goblins surround two humans or similar, humans with nametags (which turn into small descriptions once you look at them):

Thai Lang, Level 2 Monk
Hero, Human, Active, Explicit
Time since created: 2 hours
Time active: 2 hours

and

Cecilia Cottoncotton, Level 3 Cleric of Sralia
Hero, Human, Active, Explicit
Time since created: 2 hours
Time active: 2 hours

Two heroes, a group by the looks of it, both with the usual good looks of players, the monk male and the cleric female, so far so bad. It gets worse too, you dealt with these classes before, monks are good melee fighters and clerics are supporters, a dangerous combination. The only good news are their levels, you outlevel both of them, but they're heroes whereas your'e just an NPC, still, if you only had to fight one, you would have had least a chance. These thoughts occupy you long enough for them to notice you, Cecilia notifies Thai with a quick hit on the arm and he turns towards you. "Another Enemy, but not a goblin this time!" he starts moving across the bridge and towards you (it doesn't even occur to you to run or cut the bridge down or anything) but is called by Cecilia after a few meters, "remember what I told you, I'm out of mana, can't heal you if something happens!". He shortly turns his head to her while answering, "I remeber, thanks for the heads up, but i'm at nearly full health and it's just some guy, I should be OK", as he resumes his crossing of the bridge he finally half talks half shouts to you: "Finally, a worthy opponent, our battle will be legendary!". When Thai Lang is only a few more meters away it finally dawns to you that you might want to take out your weapons. You only have time to pull your sword from the belt however, before the so-called hero suddenly dashes forward with incredible speed, closing the gap, leaving the bridge and delivering a strong punch right to your guts. You stumble back a few steps, opening your defence in the process, but Thai Lang doesn't use that, instead he stands at the bridges end, pointing at you while loudly exclaiming: "Aha!". Then he finally moves forward again, still fast albeit not as fast as his dash was, he attempts to punch your leftside torso, but this time you can raise you sword fast enough to defend yourself. As the battle unfolds some things become apparent: he's more powerful than you, at such a low level his attacks aren't very powerful yet, but they come faster than yours, leaving you no time to actually attack yourself, constantly pushing you into defense. There are two reasons why you're still alive: you outlevel him, meaning it takes relatively many of his hits to end you, and, you have a sword, he's careful not to strike into the blade whenever you bring it around quickly enough, as he sometimes hurts hinself on the cutting edges (this and a single punch with your emptly left hand are the only damage you have dealt so far). After what feels like an eternity of trying to evade, deflect, block and parry his blows while still taking many of them on, you take yet another step back, but instead of following suit like so far, he stays where he is, allowing you to take a few more steps back. Only when Thai turns around and speaks to her do you notice the cleric who passed the bridge as well. "Hey Cece, I gotta say, that guy's a lot tougher than those goblins, but that's cool, it's fun", as the two players exchange words you have the time to catch your breath and finally take your torch out (you couldn't so far as it takes a little bit longer to take things from your inventory than your belt). Although Thai and Cecilia don't speak long, you even have the time to come up with a little plan, fighting with the torch instead of the sword, not both at once, that tends to be a bit difficult (you have some experience about that from former lives). When the monk finally looks back at you he's quick to notice your change: "Fighting with a torch, eh? Very well let's match your fire against my fists!". At first the fight seems to have become worse for your side, although Cecilia doesn't join in, it's going worse for you as Thai no longer hurts himself when hitting your "weapon" instead of you, taking away your best bet so far at causing damage. After a few minutes however, your plan finally comes into effect, you manage to block a hit with your torch, not just any part of the torch however, but the tip, the burning tip. With a small yelp of pain your enemy recoils, momentarily distracted by the pain of his burnt hand, you however don't repeat his error from earlier and use the opening in his defence, to basically stab the torch into his abdomen, setting him and his clothes on fire. The now definitively "thrown of his balance" monk is too shocked by the flames engulfing him within moments (your arsonist feat kicking in as hoped) to do anything as you step next to him and, in one fluid movement, use your torch as a club to bring down on his head. The stab and especially the bash on the head left a nice dent in his healthbar, but all the fire does the bigger part, he doesn't even have time to stand back up again from where he was knocked to the ground, your feat-aided fire eats through his (apparently rather small) health pool and quickly leaves him dead and defeated on the ground.
Even if you hadn't remembered the cleric, she draws attention by loudly exclaiming: "Oh fuck!" and the sound of her sprinting over the bridge. Mentally still in fight mode you run after her without hesitation, torch still in hand. Cecilias class is clearly not made for running, you catch up to her only a few meters behind the bridge and tackle her to the ground, coming to sit on top of her lying body. Even with her being a higher level than Thai, she should be no problem in a fight, recognising that you get up and wait for her to do the same and face you. She takes the word before you can: "Please don't kill me, I won't fight, I don't wanna loose progress.", "He didn't care about that when he attacccked me.", "Yeah, but I didn't attack you, besides, you're an NPC, you don't lose progress when you die.". This last statement sets you off, you died often enough to know that you absolutely loose things when dying, in your anger you forcefully slap her in the face, "Shut up bitch! You know nothing about us! Your kind comes and kills everyone for fun and now you have the audacity to say there's nothing bad about about that?! Because it has no consequences!?! You'll pay for that!!". Furious as you are, all you hear is Cecilias whispered, "Oh my god." and only turn around when you see that she isn't looking at you but behind you. The bridge is burning, your torch must have touched it at some point and set fire it on fire, now that you think of it you put it back in your inventory. "Well, bridge is burned, just enjoy the fire consuming it, it's not a bad a sight. Bitch!" you say to her while beginning to think about what to do with her. You muster her intently, for the first time really taking in what she looks like: A young human woman, of average height, skin of fair complexion and the cleanliness typical for the rich, noble and of course the players, a beautiful face with full lips and big brown eyes, a great length of blonde hair cascading down her back, and all that wrapped in a white dress with a blueish tint that fits close enough to clearly outline her figure, that of a rather typical female adventurer, a beautiful body with varying sizes of breasts and buttocks, in this case both of impressive size, but still (somewhat) within reason, all put together, a beautiful woman with a fair amount of fear on her face. Well, she's a player, acts like one and looks like one, and most importantly, she's in your power, truth be told you can think of only three possible ways to deal with her:

  1. Letting her go, simple but not exactly very rewarding.
  2. Killing her, it deals with the problem at hand and would result in loot for you.
    1. Fucking her first and then doing 1. or 2.

Ahh, decisions, decisions
