Chapter 8 by TheBlinded TheBlinded

What does 'Weiss' say?

Say yes. Weiss should give him a chance

Ruby couldn’t bring herself to tell Jaune off, but that didn’t mean she had to act completely un-Weisslike.

“Fine,” Ruby told him. “I’ll give you one chance. Make it count.”

She was painfully aware of everyone staring at her and it took a lot of effort not to let her nervousness show. Weiss’s mouth fell open and Blake actually set her book down. Neither of their expressions could match Jaune’s though. It looked like he had been smacked upside the head from the shock. After Ruby’s words finally sunk in, a huge grin formed on his face. Any guilt Ruby felt dissolved with his smile.

“You won’t regret this,” Jaune promised. “I’ll show you the best day ever. Thanks for giving me this chance, Weiss. I got to go and get everything planned. Pick you up tomorrow at 11:30?”

“Again,” Ruby repeated. “You get once chance.” She closed the door before Jaune could respond. Before she could get back to Weiss’s desk, Weiss bolted over to her with a combination of excitement and shock on her face.

“Wow, Weiss!” Weiss exclaimed. “I can’t believe you finally said yes. Why though? You’ve never saw how awesome Jaune was before.” Ruby had to suppress her laughter at seeing Weiss talk so excitedly about Jaune.

“I want to know too,” Blake added from the bed, sitting up. “You complain about him constantly and rarely say anything nice about him. What made you decide to actually say yes?”

“You aren’t planning to hurt him, right?” Weiss asked.

“I thought about it…,” Ruby started to say and looked between the other two. She couldn’t think of a good reason except saying Jaune’s a good guy. Weiss’s instincts had told her this was a bad idea and seemed to be trying to work out what happened since Ruby went directly against them. I can’t think of a reason. Is Blake going to get suspicious? I should just let Weiss handle this. She’s smarter than I am. Ruby reached into her hidden pocket and clicked the Life Swap button while aiming at Weiss.

One flash of green light later and Ruby found herself standing in front of Weiss, who was looking exasperated. Their clothes and hair styles were also back on the right bodies due to the swap. She hid the remote as Weiss continued where Ruby had left off.

“…and no matter how many times I say no, he keeps asking. It’s getting tedious.” Weiss rubbed the bridge of her nose. “I’ll bite the bullet and give him a single date. After that, I’ll try to explain it again that we don’t have anything in common and it won’t work out. He might be more bearable if he’s not trying to ask me out all the time.”

“Jaune’s a nice guy and a good friend,” Ruby told her. “Maybe you guys can actually find common ground or some similar interests?” I swapped back and Weiss immediately knew what to do to act like herself yet continue what I did in her life. So if I was in her life longer, would I see more changes once I swapped back? Weiss is my best friend, but no one would disagree she could open up more.

“I seriously doubt that,” Weiss replied.

“I see,” Blake mused. “I can understand that.” She paused. “You do realize Yang’s going to have a field day with this?”

“That was a factor in my decision too,” Weiss admitted, as she sat down. “Her attention span is lacking and, after a day or two, she will find someone else to bother about something pointless.”

“If you say so.” Blake went back to her book, paused, and then looked up. “Ruby has a point. Don’t be too hard on him. It’s not like he’s trying to get close to your family. He really likes you… for some reason.” She muttered the last part softly so the others couldn’t here.

“And I put up with him because of that,” Weiss huffed. “But he needs to know his actions are annoying to me.”

“You have to go into a date with an open mind,” Ruby pointed out, trying to help her friends. Even if they weren’t going to go out, they might be able to be friends. She wanted to hang out with both of them together, rather than separate all the time. “Isn’t the point of dating to get to know each other?”

“Yes,” Blake answered.

“Ugh.” Weiss groaned. “Maybe this was a bad idea after all and I should have told him to get lost.” Blake shrugged. Ruby took the opportunity to grab her text book and climb up her bed. She wasn’t planning to study. It was just a cover. She wanted to think about the remote and what she’s learned so far.

I have to be careful, Ruby thought to herself. The Life Swap function could have a lot of serious consequences. She hit the Reset button to undo all the swaps she had done so far, even if it was pointless. She had swapped everything back manually, but she just wanted a blank slate. Then again, everything seemed to work out naturally. Weiss will probably come back tomorrow, gripe about Jaune, and then go back to being… well Weiss. Jaune will need someone to cheer him up after that. Ruby felt slightly warm, though quickly dismissed it as excitement about the remote in her hands.

The Wardrobe Swap had changed nothing except from Ruby’s perspective. With the Reset and Undo buttons, these kinds of swaps weren’t permanent and would cause no long lasting damages. Ruby couldn’t contain her eagerness in testing out the other swap functions to see how they changed the world around her. Of course, she and the others were supposed to meet up with Yang soon for dinner. There was also the option of swapping back with Weiss and seeing if maybe she could tweak her slightly to be a little friendlier.
