Unnamed defenders POV:

They were coming right at you. You saw their faces, their filled with blood lust eyes. Their sharp weapons, their covered with blood and rust armour, barely usable wings and above them a banner. It was a red sword in the clouds, and you knew it represented their squad name, Blade that Pierced the Heavens. Or something along those lines. You never met any of them directly, just heard stories about how they were merciless oppressors during peace times and ruthless hunters at war.

But right now they were the symbol of your incoming doom.

There was no speech from your commander, no inspiring words, not even shouting random words or taunts at the opposite side. Honestly, you didn't even remember this halflings name, he only introduced himself briefly a few minutes and your memory with names sucked.

You regretted the day you decided to move south. You used to be a servant for a powerful demon that may not have treated you in the best possible way, but at least kept you and your siblings safe. Now, to make sure your sisters can get to whatever safety was, maybe even the border, you stood here. To delay them. To die, so that your family can have at least a sliver of a chance at escaping. You did see them run to the forests, you did shout to them to not look back. You hoped that it's enough.

You held your spear more firm and closed your eyes, bracing for an impact. One it started, you only wanted it to be fast. In all honesty, you were more scared of dying than **** itself.

Something touched your arm, and you thought you were going to get a heart attack. It was... The weirdest creature you've ever seen. It looked had a humanoid overall shape, but it didn't look good at all, covered in red layer of armour with spikes coming out of it's hands, chest and legs. It's face was covered by a mask, and you could only see the outline of moving mouth.

"On my signal, get everyone to run." The creature that you wouldn't dare to even have in your nightmares whispered. You could've sworn you heard more than one voice coming out of it's throat, one of them clearly overpowering the other, but both still audible. You turned your back to it reluctantly to face enemies. You wanted to forget you have ever seen anything like that.

Then you heard a sound like a hammer power hitting the anvil. The ground shook, and if you weren't holding on to your spear, you would fall down.

"David?!" You heard coming from your right. Words belonged to menacingly looking spider girl on your right that looked at what was going on with great concern in her eyes.

You weren't sure what she saw, you closed your eyes again, fear overcoming your senses. But you knew that whatever was happening, it gave you more time before your ****.
