Chapter 89

Should I have sex with this stranger, or shouldn’t I?
He is not suggesting it because he loves me
Just as I am about to give in to my curiosity, I remember how when Helena and I came back with our first two boars, she took him into the stables for some sex. There is a good chance he just sees me as another woman to wet his dick. I take his hand from my thigh and place it on his own.
“Sorry, guy. But you are quite simply not the charming stranger I am looking for.”
The farmhand shrugs and says, “Oh well. If I’m not the guy for you, then I’m simply not. But in case you change your mind, you know where to find me.”
The farmhand then gets up and walks away. After a while, Helena shows up and asks me if I’m ready to continue the boar hunt. I agree and off we go. On our way there, we come across the enclosure with our horse in it and lo and behold, he is once again mounting one of the farmer’s mares. Suddenly I realize, that if I had accepted the farmhand’s offer, I probably would have been mounted by him in the same way that that mare is getting mounted. Without even wanting to, I end up imagining myself like that. I feel myself starting to blush and quickly walk a bit faster so I end up walking ahead of Helena. I’d prefer her not to notice.
In the forest we again come across a pair of boars like we did at the start. Helena casts [Restraint] on one and gets him out of the fight. I cast [Divine Chains] on the other and keep the cleric in my team safe. This time I also cast [Sunlight Charge] on the boar chained to me. Once he is blinded, he is much saver and easier to slay. Shortly after our kills, Helena and I drag the boars out of the forest and load them onto our cart.
“Well, that’s 5 boars.” I say. Quest complete.”
“The quest for the butcher is certainly completed. But I would love to bring an extra 2 boars for the guild. I’ve gotten kindof in the mood for some boar steak and the guild does pay a small fee when you help with maintenance.” Helena informs me.
I still need as much earnings as I can get, so I agree to go back in for another 2. After some time, we load boars 6 and 7 onto our cart. On the way back to the guild, Helena lets me drive again. It is pretty great, up until she asks me to purr.
“Just because I have cat ears, doesn’t mean I purr.” I reply with a sigh.
“Aw, come now. The other cat beast-kind in the Dark Dragons do it. I also remember you hissing at me when I gave you that welcome hug a week ago.” Helena replies.
“I don’t what you heard, but I was so not hissing.”
Without warning, Helena lunges for me and hugs my face between her boobs again. I flatten my ears and do my best to pull my head away, yet when it doesn’t work, I reply with “Hssssss.”
“Helena refuses to let go and says, “Come on, just one little purr. That’s all I’m asking for.”
It looks like I’m only going to get out of this if I give her what she wants. So, I give in and say, “R.”
“Come now. Do you call that a purr? You got to go like, Rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr rrrrr.”
I give Helena a mean look, and then I go like, “Rrrrrrrrr.”
Helena then let go of me and squealed from happiness. Goddess, she is such a child. After delivering the slain boars to the butcher we return to our guild hall and get paid for the last 2 boars. That’s 5 silver from the butcher’s quest and 50 copper per boar for the guild. Helena is even kind enough to left me receive the payment for both boars. She feels she already had her ‘payment’ for those at the farm. Ugh, she’s such a slut. I do insist she takes at least half of the payment we got from the butcher.
So that leaves me with 2,5 silver from the boars that went to the butcher and 1 silver from the boars sold to the guild. That brings my total finances to 11.5 silver now. But now I also know I need to keep 10 silver in reserve the next time I need to make use of a cart.
The day after I got approached by a couple Dark dragon members. Two rank B’s and a rank C, and they invite me to join them on a quest. Their usual tank is sick with an illness and can’t make it. They also remember that I caught some burglars in that warehouse last week and felt I would be a good replacement until he is healthy again. The quest they are planning to do is to collect fruits from carnivorous plants in the forest. It seemed like an easy enough job for a decent pay, so I agreed.
I collect the bag of holding Kiara had given me in the castle and head out, only to come across Darx and have him ask me to join him for a quest to the dwarven capital. Sure, the dwarven capital would be an interesting place to visit, but it is like 2 weeks away. That’s a month until I get back. A whole month of questing and training that I would have to skip out of. I tell him I already have a previous commitment to help a different Dark Dragon party. I do tell him Ari is looking for a quest, maybe she can help him.
After meeting up with the other party, we set out for the quest. We first collect a cart with the archer of our team paying the collateral. They also place 6 large baskets in it. Do those plants really grow that much fruit? Or are there just that many plants? Upon reaching the place in the forest where the plants grow, I see it is the latter. There are at least 30 of them, with several animal bones surrounding them.
My approach would be to slay the carnivorous plants and grab their fruit, but my party members suggest we keep them alive instead. That way they can grow new fruit and we can return here in a few months for more fruit. That is actually quite smart. The idea is for me to distract the carnivorous plant without killing it while the archer collects the fruit. When the plant releases its paralyzing spores our mage, who controls air magic, can cast a spell which blows them away from us. In case we get paralyzed anyways or even hurt, the cleric can heal us.
Our strategy works pretty well. The tentacles these flowers attack me with are pretty slow of me and can easily dodge them or block them with my shield. It’s even easier when I use my sword to cut them off. I am mostly amazed at how agile and dexterous our archer was. I would never be able to jump around and pick fruit while holding a basket like that.
Every time we fill up a basket, we take a break. When we get hungry, we grab a few of those fruits to eat. They really are delicious. I’m sure they are worth quite a bit. Since the plants they come from actually fight back, I’m sure that increases their price even more.
When we filled up the 5th basket, we take an extensive break. We’ll need it for when we take on the big one in the center. When we are ready, I walk past the previously incapacitated carnivorous plants. None of them have vines long enough to reach me. I’ve pruned them all. They also no longer use their spores. I’m not sure whether they are just out of pollen, or if losing their fruit makes them docile, but it sure is a big help to not have to deal with that any more.
As soon as I get close enough to the big one, he raises 6 tentacles for me. I’m sure he has more, but let’s cut these short first. I dodge and dance between the tentacles and cut them off one by one. The others party members hold back and their cleric regularly rejuvenates my energy. I can keep it up for hours like this. When I get closer, he raises another 8 tentacles. But instead of attacking me directly, he sends his tentacles past me, then attacks me from all sides. I manage to block the ones coming from my torso and cut off some that went for my head, but the ones going for my feet manage to wrap themselves around. The tentacles around my feet pull and I fall to the ground. The surprise and the impact cause me to drop my sword and shield. On top of that, they are dragging me across the ground towards the large plant. Once I’m close enough, it releases its spores. This isn’t good.
Suddenly a gust of wind blows overhead and the spores are **** away from me. Then our archer runs past me and cuts the vines. The vines quickly redirect their attention to him, but he is quick and keeps himself a moving target. I try to get my legs free from the vines that are still wrapped around it. Just pulling them off will take too long and even with my A rank strength I can’t break them easily. I activate my [Iron Will] skill, which grants me both greater strength and defense for a while. Now I can spread my legs while ripping the tentacles to shreds.
After recollecting my sword and shield, I make for the archer. He notices I am free now and runs towards me, the tentacles still following him. We pass each other and I cut the plant’s tentacles again. I end up not getting caught like that again and we successfully cut down on the large plant’s tentacles. Then our archer comes in with his basket and collects the fruit. A full basket from just one plant.
We bring 5 of the baskets to the customer, who pays us 2 silver per basket. The last one we bring to the guild for 1 silver. That’s 11 silver total, divided by 4 party members. That’s 2 silver and 75 copper per person. The cleric fortunately had enough copper in her room to help split the reward evenly. Looks like I’ll also have to think to keep enough copper in my savings to be able to split the reward with my guild members evenly. Now my total is 11 silver coins with 325 copper coins. So, a total value of 14.25 silver.
