Beth tells Lisa about the Black Lynchers.

"Towns dying miss Lisa," Beth tells Lisa "them damned Black Lynchers are suckin' the life out of the place."

"Who are these Black Lynchers?" Lisa asked.

"They is a gang. Maybe 30 strong." Beth answered. "They is based out at the old Warner ranch."

"Does no one stand up to them?" Lisa asked.

"4 people every week." Beth replied. Then she started crying. "Our pa was one of last weeks 4."

"I don't understand." Lisa said.

Billy took over explaining.

"Each week 6 Lynchers ride into town." he said. "They take a percentage of all the towns money."

"After that they stage a poker game at the Laughing Man saloon." Billy continued. "4 tables. 4 people per table. One hand 5 card draw showdown. Winner at each table gets $200. Loser ends up in a gunfight with the Lynchers."

"Thats 6 to 4 in the Lynchers favour." Lisa reasoned. "What happens when the towns people win?"

"Don't know. Ain't happened yet." Billy answered before correcting Lisa. "And its just 1 Lyncher. A guy called John Delvers."

"1 against 4?" Lisa asked remembering her own gunfight. "He wins every time?"

"'fraid so, miss." Billy says sadly.

"When are they due back?" Lisa asked determined not to be here when they come back.

"In 4 days, miss Lisa." Beth said. "Thats what Billy and me were talkin' about. I didn't want you to stay but Billy thinks you can help us against the Lynchers."

Lisa smiled at Beth, who despite all her own problems had wanted to keep Lisa safe. In 4 days if Lisa stuck to her deal she would still be in town."

"So miss, will you stay and help us?" Billy asked.

Lisa looked from Billy to Beth. Beth's face displayed both concern and hope.

"I'll stay and do what I can!" Lisa replied.

"Thank you miss Lisa." said Beth running up and hugging Lisa.

Lisa waited until Beth was done hugging her.

"I need to go now!"

Lisa then drapped her saddlebag over her left shoulder, put her bed roll under her left arm. Lisa then picked up her valise in her left hand and the winchester in her right.

Lisa then left the stables.
