Chapter 9 by Dark_Ness

What next?

Gavin arrives

Mrs. Warren and I sat on a bench outside of the facility, waiting in relative silence. Once I had made my decision she had apparently run out of things to say. I wasn't particularly motivated to break the silence on my end.

After about 20 minutes of the uncomfortable waiting, an expensive looking SUV pulled up and parked. The man who climbed out had to be Gavin. He fit the description of a former quarterback and prom king to a tee. He had short blond hair, a strong jawline, and a bit of stubble on his face. He wore sun glasses, a tight blue polo shirt, khaki shorts, and boat shoes. He clearly worked out or spent a lot of time playing sports. Maybe both. It wouldn't surprise me if he had a six pack under that shirt.

"Gavin, so lovely to see you," Mrs. Warren said. She approached and hugged him.

"You too, Mrs. Warren." Gavin had a slight southern drawl that caught me by surprise. Did that mean he wasn't born here? Could I use that? Maybe sway him to my side against these psychos? He broke the hug and glanced around for a moment before his eyes settled on me. "And you must be Lucy."

"I guess so," I said, standing up. I was cut off from saying anything else by his arms wrapping around me, pulling me into a tight hug. He broke it a moment later, hands moving to my shoulders as he looked down at me.

"You are just as beautiful as Mrs. Warren said you were." My face heated up, as much as I hated the compliment. I didn't want to be beautiful.

"I already mentioned to Lucy, but we would like to discuss the wedding tomorrow if that works for you," Mrs. Warren said.

"That should be fine," Gavin said, sounding incredibly pleased at the idea even as I bristled. She hadn't asked if it worked for me, just said that was the plan. "I can throw some stuff on the grill for you and Mr. Warren, we can make a night of it."

"That sounds lovely," Mrs. Warren said, smiling nicely. For a moment, I could almost forget she was an evil witch who had ruined my life.

"Well, speaking of your husband, we should get out of your hair so that you can get home to him."

Mrs. Warren agreed and sent us on our way, leaving me to climb into the vehicle of a man I didn't know but was apparently engaged to.
