"Very well, Lucy..." she says. "I will reach out to Gavin and inform him of the opportunity. If he agrees, we can have your items rerouted to his home."
I nodded, looking down. I didn't want to risk her seeing something on my face that could give away that I wasn't really 100% on board here. I just needed them all to think I was playing along until I could make my move.
Mrs. Warren left and made her calls, coming back about 20 minutes later.
"It's all set. Your items are being moved to your new home with Gavin, and he will arrive here soon to meet you. We will give the two of you the night to get to know each other, and discuss the ceremony tomorrow. I will say, I expect your father to be there. It is tradition for a man to give his daughter away, after all."
I clenched my fist, but nodded. If things got that far, then seeing my daddy would be the least of my concerns. With that set, I followed Mrs. Warren out to where I would be meeting Gavin.
