Chapter 16 by TheLeherengin TheLeherengin

Alms Amour belongs to Doom.

Preparations

A short time had passed, the followers of light were locked up, the Queen's Servant was getting medical attention as was Raig and Cara and Doom was sitting beside Cara's hospital bed. The rest of Raig's servants were released from the prison and were handling a lot of the work at the moment giving Doom some free time and he used it to have the conversation he had promised.

"So... The Scribe?" he asks and Cara sighs.

"She's a neutral goddess, not related to Light or Dark, she's enigmatic and will help or hinder either side at will, she's also one of the only gods that's... well... actually active in this world. Most of the other gods are happy to stay back in their divine realms and work through agents, but Scribe is different, she is still restricted in some ways, but she takes an active part in fulfilling whatever mysterious goals she has," she hesitates and then smiles, "you know I think this is the first time in history someone has actually managed to screw with her plans, which is pretty cool, though it's probably not great that you now have a goddess who hates you, especially her," she adds.

"I have two more questions about her, one is about her name. She introduced herself and seemed annoyed I didn't recognize the name, it felt like there was something there," he asks and Cara seems nervous.

"Well, people call her The Scribe instead of using her real name. Her real name isn't spoken for fear it will draw her attention, but I guess since she already hates you, there's not much reason to be afraid of that, her real name... is Destiny. She's the goddess of Destiny," Cara explains nervously.

Doom speaks in a very slow voice, "are you telling me I just made The Goddess of Destiny my enemy?" he asks and Cara nods weakly, "Well, fuck that's not good,"

"No reason to worry about it right now, nothing we can do about that and as far as I know she can't just like... make an asteroid fall on you or anything, so, that's a silver lining," Cara says trying to be reassuring.

"Alright second question. I acted pretty confident there, but I actually have no idea why I wasn't affected, the name she wrote in her book, it's the name I had before I became this. It can't really be as simple as that not being the name I'm using anymore, since well she didn't write your name as Cara Lanoche," he argues.

Cara lays her head back staring at the ceiling, "my only guess is you quite literally aren't the same person anymore, that name doesn't belong to you anymore, it belongs to a dead person from another world, I mean I assume you died before coming to this world like Tomoko claimed she did," Cara states and then she adds, "speaking of... how'd you know my real name?" she asks.

"Well... Scribe wrote it in the boo-" Doom starts, but she cuts him off.

"- No. I mean Gitta was there too, you should have seen both our names, how'd you know which was mine and which was hers?" she asks and Doom realizes he doesn't have an answer.

"I just knew the other name was Gitta's. I don't really know how. I saw her name and it felt like I'd known that was her real name all along," he answers lamely and Cara hesitates.

"That's a bit weird, but I mean a lot of stuff about you is weird and honestly lots of stuff about Gitta is weird too. Maybe you should talk to her about it," she says.

"Vox mentioned that these names are given to you. Maybe you can explain that a bit better?" he asks, changing the subject quickly, though he's not sure why the idea of talking to Gitta about it frightens him.

"I really wish Vox was here; she'd be so much better at all this, but I'll try. We all had different names before, but when we dedicated ourselves to Melanoche we were given new names. They mean various things. Mine, Cara Lanoche, means Blade of the Night, Vox is Voice of the Night, Belleza is Beauty of the Night, Gitta is Bow of the Night, Kasi is Fist of the Night, Espia is... Spy of the Night..." Cara explains and Doom chuckles.

"Well Belleza, definitely fits that title," he mutters, "I wonder how her and Vox are doing over in Kia Marun?" he wonders idly and Cara shrugs.

"I'm sure they're fine..." Cara says and then smiles, "we can talk later, for now we should both get some rest and recover, the enemy's main army will return at any moment and we need to be ready," she states.

"Indeed... Thank you, Cara..." he says before he stands up and leaves her lying in the bed. He heads back to the palace. He enters the Queen's room and looks over the place, it's quite nice, not as lavish as the rest of the palace, which is a good thing, he's not sure he could sleep if it was as bright and gaudy as the rest of the palace. He places the Scribe's book down on the stand beside the bed, lies down and closes his eyes.

How are Vox and Belleza doing?
