Chapter 15

Spill the beans on your brains?
Please do, I'm allergic.
You stop dead in your tracks, as though you had been bound in chains. What do we do?
Urge yelps out "I don't know!? Uh..."
"The truth." It says.
Oh shut it, you're the reason we're in this mess!
"They're arguing, aren't they?" Cilla asks, giving us such a cocky damn smile.
"How..." You ask.
"You say things unprompted, out of character, seemingly to someone who isn't there. You're distant; eyes vacant of real thought. You appear suddenly alongside a god within the middle of the woods, and treat being fired upon by a repeater crossbow like watching birds fly or a flower grow. Anyone in their right mind would be scared, not just confused... What happened to you, Nameless. Who are these voices... Who are you, and why are you 'broken'?" Her word are scientific, robotic, and bereft of emotion; she wants answers out of curiosity, not contempt or fear.
Give her what she wants, Ego.
"Don't, this is going to get worse!"
"Tell her I'm your favorite~"
Gabbie, who stands between you two, speaks. "It would be best to keep walking while you speak. We are losing daylight."
Your group begins to walk, wondering what to do... Cilla watching with baited breath, her hands holding that crimson quill and a piece of parchment. Where does she even keep them, anyway? That cloak may be big, but not THAT big. The silence continues for what must have been at least half an hour of continued walking, Cilla deciding to use her writing equipment to instead detail other things she sees while she waits for your reply.
Finally, you've thought up the words to use, fine choices by the way, Ego.
You respond at last with "I... don't remember... what was before... the scary place. There were two ladies. Bad ones... they told me... to choose things. I was confused... scared... picked things. Then... Ariel found me... gave me a new core... had me sign things... more choices. Then... I was in... the tree-pl... woods, the woods. I don't know... what broke me. Only a few... memories. The others... hide them... so we don't break... anymore."
Cilla finishes writing down your statement, hopefully without the spaces between words, before asking another question. "Who were these... ladies."
Hold on, the memory of their names is somewhere... Ah, here.
You reply. "Melanoche... Carnachias..."
The other two freeze completely, with Gabbie's skin turning a shade of white almost as pale as our own with the mentioning of the first name. Cilla holds her patched eye when you say the second.
"The t-t-twin goddesses of **** and ****..." Cilla stutters out, snapping her quill with a firm grip.
You reach to your back, pulling another feather free from our useless wings. Ignoring the stinging pain, you hand it over to her. She quickly pulls a small knife from her cloak as she takes the feather, and in one swift motion, sharpens the crimson thing into a new writing implement. She puts the quill away, before reciting an incatation.
"Morn, Eve, Dusk, Dawn, Night."
"Remembrance Within My Sight."
"My Mindful Memoir."
She picks up a stick from the ground and begins to whittle away at it with her knife, saying in a matter-of-fact tone. "I will remember this perfectly for recording later. I need to do something relaxing lest I start screaming and foaming at the mouth in rage. Please continue."
"Her preformance was different from ours and the clown. Five. Seven. Five. What a wonderful rhythm."
You respond by saying "We don't... have to keep... talking about it..."
"No, please continue" Cilla says, continuing to work the piece of wood into... ah, she's making a flute.
"Talented little Eyeless. So precious."
Silence, you.
You continue as instructed. "They wanted me... to hunt the heroines..."
Our cloaked companion's knife wielding hand twitches.
"But, Ariel got me... asked me to sign... pacts. He wanted to... make sure that I... can't hurt people... unless they attack me." You finish, with ME scratching at the bit to have a bit of playtime with our little red... slashing and dancing through the woods... it would be so fun...
You smash one of your fists into your own face to silence the thing, spitting blood as you shout. "Shut up! Madness!"
The other two are silently staring at you now, grasping their weapons tightly.
Gabriella speaks with a shaken voice, asking "Which pacts did you sign..."
"Respect sacred ground... Love humanity... Eradicate the dark..." You answer, stiffening up at the sight of your traveling companions being so on edge.
The two release a joined sigh of relief, followed by you gasping for air; having held your breath in distress when not speaking. Your group proceeds silently through the woods with ease after this, reaching a long clearing with upturned dirt; a road.
Cilla breaks the silence, pulling out her compass from before. "Ok, we just head down the road towards the east, and we should arrive at Saltmoore at around..."
She looks to the sky, seeming to estimate the sun's droop with the time to be spent traveling. "Ah, if we move quickly, we will reach it just as night falls."
Your strained little group prepares to head out, when three noises can be heard. The rattling of a wooden contraption alongside the beating of hooves coming from the west... and our stomach roaring out for food in deep grumbles. We haven't eaten anything since we got here, have we...
Nope, running on empty.
