Chapter 6
by porneia
How do you play out Rae's arrest?
Play it straight.
You decide the only way to handle this is to play it straight, though for the first time in your DMing career you feel the beginning of an erection starting to stir during a game session.
“Okay.” You announce to everyone, “with the party split up into four different groups, does everyone, except Rae, tried to meet back together at some place?”
The four free players agree, however, Brian asks, “But where?”
“Everyone roll intelligence.” You decree. Thankfully no one fumbles so you announce, “The logical place, you think, would be at the house of Xarn the Blacksmith who tasked you with the original quest. It was the first place you stayed when you entered the city, besides Saul has to turn in the Overlord's artifact that you stole, so wouldn't you'll naturally go there?” Yes, you're herding the party a bit, but everyone knows having multiple different groups really slows the game down to a crawl, so the group readily agrees.
Over several minutes you describe the completion of the quest, Xarn's thanks, and the gold and magic items everyone receives, save Rae. Holding off on giving out experience points, you look over at Sandra who doesn't at all seem upset that she is missing out on the treasure.
“I have to ask,” you inquire of the party, "when the cleric doesn't show up, what do you do?”
“It would be logical to assume Rae was captured by the guards?” Saul rhetorically asks.
“We have to go rescue her!” Brian is quite emphatic.
“Yes, immediately.” Vivian agrees.
“That might not be the best course of action.” The fallen Ranger ponders. “Assaulting the jail will probably be suicidal. However, since the guards most likely don't know what we stole. at worst Rae would get charged with trespassing. Besides, she is a priestess of Saint Cuthbert, they will probably go easy on her.”
“That's logical.” You reply, greatly relieved that Saul has unintentionally fallen in with your plan.
“We could ask Xarn, or one of his people, to go recon the jail for us and get some intel.” David suggests, which brings Saul's, and yours, support.
Brian and Vivian look over at Sandra who just smiles. “It's okay, don't worry about me.” She reassures them. While this is technically "meta-gaming" you let is slide. Sandra is still very new to the game and besides it all going the direction you want.
“I guess.” Vivian slowly agrees. “We will give it a day.”
“Then why don't we do our pizza run.” You suggest. “During the break I can figure out what happens to the cleric.”
“Saul and myself can go get the pie.” David offers.
“Viv and myself want to get some coffee from the Starbuck's down the block.” Brian adds.
As per the ancient sacred rituals of gaming, everyone digs through their pockets to throw in a few bucks for the pizza and java. Soon you're left alone with the beautiful Sandra.
“So what do the guards do to me?” The curvy brunette asks as she puts her elbows on the table while placing her chin into her hands, leaning towards you with that slight smile that you find so seductive, yet so difficult to decipher.
Aroused, but nervous, you hold to the belief the best course is to continue to play it straight. “They march you back to the large stone fort that doubles as a jail and court house in the center of the merchant's district. There your weapons and items are removed and you're put into a small prison cell.”
“They let me keep my armor on?” Sandra asks with an innocent surprised voice.
“Yes.” You nod, as you feel your palms start to get a bit sweaty. “They're more concerned about information right now. Why were you trespassing and who were you with."
“Oh, I will never give up my friends.” Sandra answers emphatically while straightening up, “No matter what they do to me.”
“Don't you tell them that you're a priestess of Saint Cuthbert? Like Saul suggested.” You, yourself commit the sin of meta-gaming, trying to lead the novice player as you feel your manhood continue to harden. “They would respect, and fear treating, a cleric of the god of goodness, law and protection poorly.”
“But that means I would have to invoke the name of my deity falsely.” Sandra shakes her heard. “I shouldn't do that.” The top-heavy brunette looks at you with those deep brown eyes. “What happens to me if I simply confess to just being a common thief trying to steal some random stuff? How long would I go to prison for?”
“Um.” You stutter for second. “In medieval times there aren't really any prisons. So a criminals were usually fined and/or punished.”
“Oh." Sandra states in a such a straight lace fashion that it's driving you crazy with arousal and uncertainty. "You mean corporal punishment?” Her innocent voice inquires of not so innocent things. “I will be sentenced to endure physical pain and humiliation for my crimes?”
To hear those words said with such a straight, serious, yet beguiling feminine voice gives you a raging erection. You pray that you will not have to stand up anytime soon.
What is your answer?
