Pink Objects of Perverted Unaware Performance

Little is known about the creators of the Pink Objects of Perverted Unaware Performance, abbreviated as "Popups" by the select few entities aware of their existence. They have never been identified, and the goals in their creation remain unclear.

These Popups can appear anywhere and any time, with few apparent patterns to be derived in their appearance. Good or evil, rich or poor, powerful or weak, male or female or anything in between: anyone can become a target of the Popups. The only limitation appears to be that they generally appear at a time when the target is, initially, alone.

The form the Popup takes is most often something that has some relation to the person's life, work, or daily activities, but usually colored garishly pink, often with other accompanying adornments that should make them clearly stand out. However, past research has indicated these Popups, in some cases, only take on their unusual appearance after they have already been interacted with by the target.

Once the target has acknowledged the Popup, they are placed under its power, becoming its plaything. The effects of the Popup vary, but in most cases include some or all of the following:

Most obviously, the target will be subjected to humiliating, often erotic changes. The target's body, clothing, and mind may be changed as the Popup sees fit. Very often, they will be transformed in character, either subtly or completely, and made to act out a perverted performance for the benefit of an unseen audience. The Popup can affect the setting and lighting and can also generate new props in order to facilitate the performance, but cannot generate sentient beings. It is especially prone to the use of generating faceless mannequins when it needs additional "actors."

The Popup appears to be able to remove some or all of the target's awareness of what is happening to them. In some cases, the target may stumble from one transformation into the next without ever becoming aware that something strange is happening. In other cases, the target may be granted temporary awareness and allowed to struggle in vain against their predicament. The Popup appears particularly inclined to play with the target's awareness, allowing them moments of clarity before pulling them into their next predicament.

The Popup often transforms the area around the target into a "stage," where the performance area is defined by new barricades. If anyone else steps within the barricades, they may become props in the performance as well. For instance, the Popup may control the original target to pull the new arrival into the humiliating performance. The Popup seems to take special interest in its original target, however, and will ordinarily make the original target the subject of the brunt of its transformation effects or awareness manipulation.

The Popup is especially prone to play with its victims by offering them false hope of an escape. However, there is no true escape from their power. Destroying the object might result in another taking its place; destroying or exiting the barricades may only result in the stage shifting to the adjacent area; the arrival of a potential savior is often undercut by the sudden arrival of a new transformation; any patterns or reason the target might find to explain the changes only serve as a way for the Popup to subvert their expectations. The only true end to the meddling of the Popup is when it terminates the performance under its own power. It is hypothesized that the Popup eventually tires of playing with the same target, and will ultimately leave them alone. However, in a final act of playing with the target, the Popup often generates a final change in the target and releases them with total unawareness of that change. Such changes are often permanent.

What, then, is the purpose of the Popup? Its actions all suggest the manipulation of the target for the amusement of an unseen audience. Recording devices and actual onlookers only appear incidentally. Although the performance is clearly meant for someone's entertainment, the Popup performances have sometimes been researched or recorded to occur entirely in private. Whoever is being treated to the performance generated by the Popup seems to have a sick sense of humor and a preference for secrecy. A lack of actionable information on how to protect oneself from the Popup or escape its effects leaves most governing bodies to conclude that the best course of action is not to make their citizens aware at all; after all, its appearance is relatively rare and its effects are, debatably, not dangerous. What use is it to warn someone of a danger that they can only avoid by being lucky enough not to be chosen?

For whom does the Popup pop up?
