Working man blues
Perhaps a pick me up?
All things considered, the job could’ve been worse. George knew that he was lucky that he hadn’t had to replace the door all together. Instead he replaced two of the hinges, who were so bent out of shape that they couldn’t be used anymore, and fixed a small part of the frame. In an ideal world he’d have given the whole ordeal a new lick of paint too, but he had a feeling that Mason didn’t really care. He had spent most of time that George was fixing his door loudly calling some girl on the phone. Talking about how he’d do her, what he’d do and why she’d love it. The craziest part was that the girl seemed excited by the prospect, George supposed she could do worse. He thought the voice sounded slightly familiar for a second, though he had a hard time placing it. He did his best to listen in on the conversation, but Mason just seemed to drone on and would drown out the voice of the girl on the other end of the line. George was almost caught once as he was staring not the room absentmindedly, softly tapping a hammer against the frame of the door to pretend he was actually working. Mason had caught his eye and was about to speak up when George shook himself awake again and got back to actually doing his job.
“Well there you go, door’s fixed. No more playing football inside please.” Mason glanced up from his phone, his expression somewhat emotionless, “Sure dude, thanks.” George sighed, secretly betting himself that he’d be back at this same dorm room in about a week. The afternoon had rolled passed and it was around 6 pm, George’s stomach grumbled as he realized that he never had the time to eat lunch. He took another look at his hard work and tried his best to be satisfied, today was not one of those days unfortunately.
George sat behind the wheel of his golf cart, racing passed B building and then A building, where the girls dormitories were. He looked over, secretly wishing to see a familiar face and be invited in. But no one was outside, so solemnly he drove on. George knew that he was lucky he had this job, that it paid well and that it came with certain benefits. But today was one of those days were he looked back to when he was a kid and thought about how that kid never wanted to grow up to be handyman. That kid wanted to be an astronaut, or a paleontologist, or Spiderman… Regardless, those dreams were too far out of reach and his life seemed perfectly fine as it was. George supposed that all he needed was a little pick me up, something to lift his spirits. Besides, it had been over a week since he’d gotten laid. Jenny hadn’t been lying when she said that she was going to drain him dry. George hadn’t been in the mood for a while and more than a week of not having sex was something he hadn’t done in at least a year. As he sped around a corner, towards his accommodations, he began to wonder who he should call up…
Who's he gonna call?
