Tick-Tock

PUZZLE BOX: May As Well Wait

Hank had sat across from the old lady, tensely waiting for the other shoe to drop and for whatever magic 'Doom' the box had waiting for him to manifest itself. But again, he was left waiting. Sure he tried to find an opening to interrupt the old lady and tell her he needed to leave, but he didn't want to betray this image of the 'concerned neighbour' that he'd painted for himself. So he just had to wait for the right moment.

That was proving difficult though, as this lady could talk... and talk... and talk. He wasn't even really paying attention at this point just nodding and agreeing mostly. Especially because after a little while, he was sure that his three minutes had run out and yet nothing happened. The moment of relief was followed by the fatigue of panic and adrenaline wearing off, making it even more sleep-inducing to sit here and listen to the old lady waffle on and on.

''Oh, look at the time! Almost noon. I had better let you get on with your day. Thank you again for checking in on me''

''No problem'' he smiled. Before standing up and heading towards the door.

''Oh, don't forget this'' The old lady followed behind him as he reached the door, balled up jacket in hand

''Yeah, thanks. Guess I forgot'' He said, taking the jacket, his smile faltering as he felt something solid wrapped up inside it.

''Can't be leaving things like this behind, this is all yours'' She said, patting the jacket he now held in his hands.

He returned a weak smile. Was he panicking again?

''Have a good day now!'' The old lady said with a smile, shutting the door right in front of him and leaving him staring blankly at the dark wood.

Okay, he was definitely panicking.

He hurriedly made his way back across the street and into his own house, quickly setting the jacket down and opening it up to reveal the same puzzle that was on it when he put it into the jacket. With the timer down at 5 seconds. His hand went straight for the 'RESTART' label. Holding it down as he stared at the puzzle for the longest 4 seconds of his life.

Below each letter was a reel with all the letters of the alphabet. Not that Hank particularly cared as he watched the countdown reach zero

Did He Manage To Reset It?
