Emily persists, so you take her aside and walk her through all the actual reasons to be confident in herself. "And if it's teaching you're worried about," you add. "Ask the Tutor about that."

You manage to pump up Emily's confidence and give her some places to look that aren't either her much-admired Warden, Barbara Torch, or the pulled-too-many-directions New Girl in House Leontes, namely yourself. You suspect that the Warden has been too busy to take Emily under her wing, or to her bed, lately, and you refuse to take charge of her needy pet.

Roll +BRAVERY at -1 (0) to ENCOUNTER Master Elbegast (using your House Trait, since he's not with a specific House) and request a start on your GOAL to forge a protective ward for Fay, who's been the target of petty Sendings from the pet scholars of your old House's Master Whiplash and Tutor Hawk: 4.

"No, Miss," says Master Elbegast's apprentice. "He's not here. Told me to keep the fires low. Maybe next week?"

You thank the apprentice. Too young to be a proper Boarbristle scholar, you suspect, but perhaps Master Elbegast is doing a favor to some family connection.

Well, nothing for it but to pull up your stockings and get to work while your special subject is still in the air. Enchantments, divinations, transformations, your high marks last year. You sigh. Nothing much seems to be going right, except all your string-pulling. Here you are in House Leontes, climbing a steep hill toward the castle of desire.
