PLEASE READ: Trans Rights Readathon

In my online circles, there has been a push for a community event the Trans Rights Readathon. It’s supposed to be from March 20th to the 27th, where participants are reading works by trans and nonbinary authors in an attempt to raise money for trans charities. This is a last minute call to my audience, because honestly I forget that people actually read my stuff. (But I love you all for it <3)

There isn’t a centralized charity for the event, instead each participant is open to choose charities that speak to them. I personally plan on donating to PROMO an organization dedicated to fighting the anti LGBTQIA+ legislature happening here in my home state of Missouri. Supporting your own local charities are another great option. Or a national charity like the Transgender Law Center.

This cause means a lot to myself as a nonbinary individual myself. I hope that at least some of you will participate. Even if you can’t donate, just reading and supporting my fellow trans authors shows a huge amount of support. Libraries being a great way to read for free.

If you’re looking for suggestions to read, I’ll obviously start with my own works. I would assume you’re all familiar with my branch here in the Pokeslut story. Any of my other stories can be found on my page here on CHYOA. But I’d like to give a special spotlight to two of my short stories that are part of my Prompted Story Collection. “Shared Sleeping Bag” and “The White Elephant in the Room” both feature trans characters. And a lesser shout out to my work in Ringmaster and Hero Academia for minor trans side characters.

I would also point you to the lovely Wixxy, who is a fellow trans author here on the site. Her story “My Teddy Bear” is marvelous and honestly a must read for any fans of brother/sister ****. She is amazing and I can’t recommend her work enough.

I would also love to showcase QueerKestrel, they are an amazing author here on the site. You should definitely check out there stuff. "They are my Sister" and "The Unicorn" are perfect reads for the Readathon. And "Secret Masochist" is always a great choice, and some gender fun mixed into the "Old Flame" branch. They're superb and worth a read!

For the Readathon I personally plan on reading “Cemetery Boys” by Aiden Thomas, “Hell Followed with Us” by Andrew Joseph White, and “Meet Cute Diary” by Emery Lee. I’ve also already read the graphic novels “Magical Boy, Volume 1” by The Kao and “Gender Queer” by Maia Kobabe. Just picked up the graphic novel "Nimona" by ND Stevenson as well.

Other books by trans and nonbinary authors that I’ve read in the past include:

  • She Who Became the Sun” by Shelley Parker-Chan
  • The Unbroken” by C.L. Clark
  • A Lady for a Duke” and “Rosaline Palmer Takes the Cake” by Alexis Hall
  • One Last Stop,” “Red, White, & Royal Blue,” and “I Kissed Shara Wheeler” by Casey McQuiston
  • Loveless” and (I watched the Netflix adaptation by haven’t actually read) “Heartstopper” by Alice Oseman
  • The Sunbearer Trials” by Aiden Thomas
  • How to Excavate a Heart” by Jake Maia Arlow
  • "Love and Other Disasters" by Anita Kelly
  • "Mistakes Were Made" by Meryl Wilsner

Thank you to everyone who read through this. It means a lot to me. And even if you don’t see this during the Readathon, it’s always great to show support through reading and/or donating. I love you all <3 I’m always open to chatting in the comments. My DMs are open here on CHYOA. Or you can always find me over on Discord, in my personal server (it’s pretty dead, but I promise I’m there if you are, link in my bio) or the CHYOA Fan Server (can be found on homepage).
