Overview of the Various Kingdoms and Such in the Story
Kingdom of Tono
The Kingdom of Tono fully occupies a peninsula in the southeastern corner of Europe. Containing five major rivers, a small range of mountains, and a temperate forest, its western border is formed by a sixth major river and additionally is protected from the west by a buffer of a marsh most immediately and the desert known as the Desolation of Gusu just past that. Its namesake capital, Tono, is also called the City of Omens, and occupies an important position in global sea trade. Its major export partner is the Duchy of Cyllian, and most of its imports come from the Empire, to the east from across the great sea.
- Tono: This city is located at 101 degrees East, 44 degrees South. It is the capital city of the Kingdom of Tono, and the only major such city. Minor roads connect it to other towns and cities in the kingdom, and it boasts a battalion of pegasus rider paladins, called the Winged Hussars. The leader of the batallion wields a legendary sword called Quid Pro Quo - in addition to being peered with the most powerful longswords in terms of raw power, it also gives its wielder the ability to riposte with it in response to an attack. Located nearby are the infamous Infinity Caves; most of those who left raved with madness, and even yet more have never emerged after entry. However, for those who emerged with their sanity intact have universally emerged with immense treasure.
Duchy of Cyllian
The Duchy of Cyllian is a city-state which borders the Empire on all sides, including maritime. It is a trade city which gets the bulk of its wealth from trading with the Kingdom of Tono to the south, the Dwarven Kingdom of Daford to the north, and the coastal cities of the Empire to the west. It is very conservative culturally, being extremely patriarchal. Only men may inherit and no woman may serve in any elected capacity; those women who are in government get wages one-fifth that of their male counterparts. The Doge of the city, who is its sovereign, is elected by lottery system upon the **** of the previous Doge. All male citizens are eligible to be elected. The city is located at 109 degrees East, 22 degrees North and sits in a natural harbor.
The Northern Free Kingdoms
Kingdom of Fahyrst
The Kingdom of Fahyrst was founded by the giants upon the liberation of the northern archipelago from the Empire. The giant king is widely popular, his father having served in the war. They contain a peninsula, and their natural harbors are not accessible in the winter due to the ice. A famous librarian calls the kingdom home. To its west sits the Thithlande Weald, a wild place filled to the brim with magic. On the other side of the Weald sits the Kingdom of Eren. Major trade partners are the Kingdom of Eren and the northwestern stretches of the Empire.
- Fahyrst: This city is located at 37 degrees West, 65 degrees North. It is the capital city of the Kingdom of Fahyrst and contains the most famous library in the known world; the great Librarian Dreas owns his home near it, creator of the Dreas Decimal System. The architecture is grand, and many who immigrate have trouble adjusting to it, becoming much more empathetic with gnomes after doing so.
- Thithlande: This city is located at 53 degrees West, 64 degrees North. It is a free haven for all races, and contains multitudes of various people of all social classes: it has high autonomy within the Kingdom of Fahyrst, and trade has prospered as a result. Due to this status of autonomy and high frequency of trade, almost a tenth of its population is some form of temporary resident, never residing in this city for more than a decade at a time for any such individual.
Kingdom of Eren
The Kingdom of Eren was the direct breakaway state from the Empire, containing everything on the northern archipelago west of the Thithlande Weald. It trades extensively with the Empire and the Kingdom of Fahyrst. Land trade between the Kingdom of Eren and Kingdom of Fahyrst is nonexistent due to the extensive wilds of the Weald; all foreign trade occurs by sea. Their navy is the spearhead of the Northern Free Kingdoms, being able to act as a fleet in being in event of war returning between the Kingdoms and the Empire.
- Eren: This city is located at 64 degrees West, 56 degrees North. Being the namesake capital of the Kingdom of Eren, it is where the throne of the northern branch of the Rosechilds lies, their being the kings of this kingdom. Within it lies a monument to the revolution of 0 AL.
- Falarast: This city is located at 67 degrees West, 50 degrees North. It is the Kingdom of Eren's major port, and contains multitudes of various races; however three races dominate the population: elves, humans, and half-elves. This mixing of races has led to high degrees of racial tolerance and cultural innovation, with areas of cuisine, learning, literature, and theater all being the prime evidences of this. The elven population of the city is primarily composed of wood elves, although there are high elves dotted throughout. The city sits on the northeast coast of a small island, being in an ideal position for year-round trade and shipbuilding.
The Eternal Empire
The Eternal Empire controls 90% of the global population, and is a confederation of five separate, albeit united kingdoms. The flag of the Empire is comprised of five interlocking rings on a white field: one red, one green, one blue, one orange, and one silver.
- The Five Cities of Edheren: These five cities are located at 0 degrees West, 27 degrees South, nestled at the edge of the Shield Peaks, at the furthest inland navigable point on the Golden River. They serve in collective as the capital of the Empire, its capitol palace rising high above the rest of the city in a massive spire. They also, however, serve as the individual capitals of each of the five constituent kingdoms.
The Human Kingdom
Within the Human Kingdom, law reigns supreme and so too does human courage, with its royal gem of the ruby and national color of red. Humans have the highest tolerance for extremes, having settled provinces containing the Haunted Weald in the form of Siluas and The Jungle of **** in the form of Tantium. They additionally have been making attempts to expand into yet another haunted area for the past fifty years, which borders the Desolation of Gusu. The Human Kingdom contains the provinces of Archipelago in Europe and bordering the expansion region, Plusantium in far northeastern Europe, Tantium in far eastern Tantia, Stagnaquarium in northwestern Tantia, Nonplusultra in far southwestern Tantia at the mouth of the Toadmoor River, and Siluas, in southeastern Tantia. Inheritence is patrilineal, and all males by law must be given preference over females for inheritance.
- Gralgei: This city is the capital of the Human Kingdom, located at the same coordinates as the Five Cities of Edheren. Possessing the main gate, this city has many tourist destinations near such. From a theater to an arena to public baths, this city also happens to be where Tablet production occurs for the Empire. Being the most administrative-heavy city of the five, if someone needs something administratively that must be dealt in the Five Cities, it is more likely to be needed here than in the Capitol Palace. The human palace is a two-story wide building which has a square design and a roof garden.
- Pawold: This city is located at 42 West, 32 South. It is the capital of Nonplusultra, and was practically settled just to say that it could be. It has moderate naval trade, not being in the ideal location for foreign trade due to better locations being located to its immediate west and immediate south. It does, however, participate in a healthy amount of riverine trade, being located at the mouth of the Toadmoor River, the longest river in the known world, barely edging out the Blood River (which is the largest river) but still significantly longer than the longest navigable river, the Golden River. It trades heavily with Gnomish Midland and its capital of Booford, Dwarven Dernorden in the northern Shield Peaks, Dwarven Fernlander in the Gold Hills, and Elven Coedwrach, which sits at the mouth of the Golden River.
- Shoofalls: This city is located at 33 East, 17 North. It is the capital of tropical Tantium, located far from the deadly Jungle of ****. The governor's residence is located next to the far more luxurious Mayoral Mansion, which unlike the governorship is a hereditary position. Overland trade passes from its east - from Europe - through the Grey Jungle to its west, to Aasimar Pretannika and the wider Tantia. Despite its name, there is absolutely no waterfall anywhere remotely near it. Being inland (albeit just barely), it performs no maritime trade, maritime trade within the province being performed at actual port towns.
The Elven Kingdom
Within the Elven Kingdom, a number of nature conservation laws exist; undue logging is forbidden. This importance on nature has resulted in the national color being green, with the royal jewel of the emerald. It contains Ruddin with its Tatyw Forest, Coedwrach with its Druid's Grove (another forest, and yes there are multiple Druid circles within), Coedcoch with its Scarlet Jungle, Gogleddgwlad with its Northern Weald and Kindred Jungle, European Coedgwaed with its Crimson Jungle, and European Dyffryn. The lowest born farmer is considered to have no higher status in Elven law than the highest born Duke. The monarch, on the other hand, is considered lower than either of the two others, having been disgraced in generations past. Inheritance is male-preference, and half of titles and the largest share of inheritance must be passed on to the eldest son.
- Mynydduwchbenygoedwig: This city is the capital of the Elven Kingdom, located at the same coordinates as the Five Cities of Edheren. It contains the cities' riverine ports, also resulting in it having the largest marketplace in the world, as riverine trade with the wider Empire must past through here in order to get to the Five Cities, with their total population of 20 million. Trade comes from the southwest to the rest of the world and northeast to Dwarven Kernland in the heart of the Shield Peaks.
- Castow: This city is located at 11 East, 22 North. It is set within the largest bay in the world, being accessed through a channel next to one of the world's major currents. Being one of the few major elven cities, it serves as the capital of Gogleddgwlad.
The Dwarven Kingdom
Within the Dwarven Kingdom, the land itself reigns supreme, the law of common ownership over the earth itself being inviolable, with its national gem being sapphire and color being blue. Their cities are largely underground, often containing small riverine ports to send gold, emeralds, and more downstream to the wider world for trade. Trade is rather complex, with individuals giving a portion of the riches they wish to transport to the ferriers in exchange for successful trade. Oftentimes ferriers are individuals from the wider Empire who have a head for numbers; they are rarely dwarves and when they do come from the province itself, are members of races which live aboveground in dwarven lands, such as goblins. Inheritance is patrilineal just as it is with the Human Kingdom.
- Altheim: The only dwarven city readily accessible to the rest of the world, it is located at the edge of Kernland, being connected to the provincial capital via underground road. The major attraction for foreign visitors in Altheim is the royal mint, which has an exclusive contract with the Capitol palace to mint the highest denominations of coins. This is the Dwarven capital city, being connected to Gnomish Dayglow, Aasimar Aeroros, and Elven Mynydduwchbenygoedwig by combination of tunnels and ladders (and simply walkways in the case of Daysglow - some houses are even halfway in Altheim and halfway in Daysglow).
The Gnomish Kingdom
Within the Gnomish Kingdom, the law of the land is "do what you can to achieve what you want." While there are most definitely laws and plenty thereof, the spirit of the kingdom is a freer one, containing several wizard towers. Warlocks have no inherent bias against them within this kingdom, as it is seen to abide by principles of self-autonomy. Orange is the national color, and citrine the royal gem. While most gnomish cites do have aboveground portions, the true spirit of the city is only accessible should you venture underground. Within gnomish territory lies the provinces of Midland, Wessex, Sussex, and Farlands. Of these four, only Farlands lies in Europe, with the rest lying in Tantia (Sussex to the south, Wessex to the west, and Midland to the center). Like the Elven Kingdom, inheritance is male-preference.
- Daysglow: This city is the capital of the Gnomish Kingdom, and is located at the same location as the Five Cities of Edheren. While there is a branch in the aboveground portion, those who need to use the Kneecap Bank's main branch must venture underground, where even those who have heard the tales are often astounded by the gnomes' mech suits which walk around the streets day and night. Fellow gnomes are often fascinated by these suits, unless they hail from Booford (one unfortunate gnome a century ago met a grisly fate while trying to reverse engineer one of the suits while in-use). Those who hail from taller races are dumbfounded by these suits, while the dwarves from bordering Altheim mostly just roll their eyes at all these shenanigans.
- Booford: This city is located at 22 West, 15 South. Located within the vast heartland of Tantia, it is the capital of Midland. Aboveground is the Heartland Arena, which contains the most famous competition worldwide; barely edging out the infamous Electoral Games. This gladiatorial arena houses fighters of global renown, with many coming here to try to win acclaim and claim to riches. The belowground portion has numerous alchemical labratories and zany inventors, all trying to create something crazier than before.
- Brapool: This city is located at 45 West, 19 South. Located as a riverine port, this is one of the very few gnomish cities without a belowground portion. In fact, it would be entirely unnotable were it not for the nearby Witchlight Jungle. It is the capital of Wessex. "I'm not a gnelf, I'm not a gnuman, I'm a gnome!" ~Jerry the Capper
The Aasimar Kingdom
The Aasimar Kingdom rests unique in giving full rights to all its citizens, regardless of race (rather unfortunately, this doesn't remain true for social classes); the national color is silver and the royal gem the diamond. The Adventurers' Guild was founded by the Aasimar, and exists to enact justice where the law fails to reach. The Aasimar Kingdom has a mere two provinces, both being taken due to the problems therewithin. Pretannika is the more prosperous of the two and is situated within Tantia, just to the west of Tantium, and incidentally contains a massive lagoon; however many of these riches go towards combatting the problems of the Toxic Jungle. Barbaria (the person who named it did not like their job) is located within Europe, just to the east of Tantium. Within the province lies the Corrupted Jungle, at a weak point between the planes. Rather unfortunately, it is largely visitors from the outer planes which find their way into the Corrupted Jungle rather than from the elemental planes. Inheritance is absolute, being disallowed to favor male children over female children.
- Aeroros: This city is the capital of the Aasimar Kingdom, and is located at the same location as the Five Cities of Edheren. It is the furthest in elevation of the Five, and has open-air architecture. The HQ of the Adventurers' Guild is located within, and its guildmaster is the one who manages requests. It additionally contains the largest library within the Five. The royal palace is located at the highest point in the city, being vast and airy with its intricately-decorated pillars.
- Kinda: The capital of Pretannika, it benefits massively from trade from Tantium to its west and Gogleddgwlad to its northeast. This city is located on the only overland route between Europe and the heart of Tantia. The Adventurers' Guild has a secondary branch here so that it can closely monitor the Toxic Jungle in an attempt to keep it contained.
