Chapter 29 by Jizzrar Jizzrar

What will Marius have to do?

Outsmart the monster

A few more doves, blocks, blows, and regenerations exchanged between the two combatants. Somehow it seemed even more difficult for the Rune Blade to keep up. His stamina was becoming to be depleted more rapidly than usual while the Vampire, the undead abomination, seemed to be barely phased by the activities.

“Must of been some sort of blessing she stole...obviously, but it seems to be doing wonders for her store of magic and energy.”

Marius was barely given more time to think as the Vampire went to strike again. Deciding to get some breathing room, Marius activates the rune that was on his sword that then ignited the blade with magical fire. That did the trick as the Vampire began to recoil at the feel of the heat radiating from the metal and used a great deal of strength to dash away from the Rune Blade.

Trying to regain what bit of breath he could with this new opportunity, Marius kept his eyes on the woman. All the whole his mind was racing to come up with a plan on what to do. He was going to be horrifically outmatched at this rate.

It seemed he was too deep in thought as suddenly a sickly green bolt of foul magic was heading for him before he noticed. Cursing, he brought his sword up and activated one of his other runes that decorated its blade, noticing that he didn’t have time to dodge.

This resulted in the bolt to bounce off of the sword as soon as it made contact. Normally this spell is used to reflect magic back at the caster, but he didn’t have the time to properly angle the blade to accomplish that so it went off into a random direction instead.

And that when it clicked in his mind.

It seemed that the Vampire had took account the pointless exchange of melee blows, the flames and materials of her enemy’s weapon, and how seemingly and rapidly tiring her opponent was becoming. It seemed she was about to content herself on flinging spells.

Glancing upward, Marius began to guess how much ground was between that ceiling and the outside world. It should still be day outside.

“There’s no way this is the best plan...but it’ll have to do.”

Is it worth the try?
