Our first battle!

Leaving my mother's house, I made my way down the small dirt road towards Route 1. My mind was still the meeting I had with Professor Oak, the man that this whole town was built around. Oak made a name for himself in researching Pokémon, and his work had earned him dozens of awards. He had entrusted me with his newly invented Pokedex, a machine literally made for identifying Pokémon.

"Go out and become a master of the Pokémon world, Leaf. I know you can do it. Fill this Pokedex up and bring it back to me when you become World Champion." he had said, providing me with just the right amount of confidence I needed to start my journey. It was his words that finally pushed me to get my Trainer License. The contract had been scaring me for the last few weeks, though I was certain I was going to make it through okay.

Right outside of Pallet Town is Route 1, a scenic country road that leads straight into Viridian City. The Route is well-known for being cluttered with wild Pokémon, and the tall grass and greenery that fill it are perfect hiding places for them.

My mother and Oak had both warned me about the tall grass, telling me that wild Pokémon use it to ambush trainers and others. I was ready to face whatever came out however, with my trusty starter Pokémon ready to go.

Sure enough, after only a few miles of walking, the first wild Pokémon showed itself. A purple rat-like creature skittered about, gnashing its teeth at me as I pulled Bulbasaur from my belt. The battle was quick, with Bulbasaur easily beating the Rattata low enough for me to be able to capture it. Once the ball finally clicked shut, I leapt into the air with happiness and joy.
