Biography:
Orobas was born to a merchant of mediocre wealth. But when his parents discovered he was born an S rank, they were worried their duke would take their son away from them. They decided to forge his adventurer’s card and pretend he was a B rank instead. It was only at Orobas’ 12th birthday, when his skills and class appeared on his real adventurer card, that they informed him about his real rank, as well as their fears of him being taken away from them should anyone learn he is an S rank. At first Orobas was shocked his parents kept this from him, but it didn’t take long for him to accept having a higher rank than he originally thought he had. His parents made up to him by having one of his uncles teaching him magic. As he grew older, Orobas could go to magic schools, where he could learn advanced magics and runes, but he had to be careful not to let anyone know his true rank. It is there where Orobas got the idea of writing a book about all the runes he had learned and kept the book on him at all times. When Orobas became 18, his parents told him that they are no longer afraid of a duke taking him away from them and could come out as an S rank if he wanted to.
Orobas decided to keep his rank a secret until be became 25 years old. Only then, when he felt comfortable at letting the world know he was an S rank, did he travel to the Demon King’s court and announced himself as an S rank. The Demon King of that time was quite happy with this, as he finally had an S rank that was not groomed by one of the dukes. Rather, Orobas was an S-rank that lived amongst the people and coudl offer a unique perspective.
As the years went by, Orobas came to know his fellow S ranks under command of the Demon King and became good friends with some of them. Despite everything though, Orobas felt his home at the Demon King’s castle was not well suited to him. He wanted to study magic and needed more space for that. So, when a duke died of old age, Orobas decided to get married to the duke’s oldest child, a wolf-fiend daughter.
There were other suiters of course. Fellow S ranks under the Demon King, among which some of his friends, all of which desiring to marry the duke’s heir and taking her ducal title for themselves through marriage. The woman they were courting decided she would only marry the best of them. So, she presented them with 3 challenges. The man or woman who was the first to complete those 3 challenges would be the only one she’d marry.
The first challenge was for them to bring her a black lotus flower. This would be quite an arduous task, as the black lotus is native to the human controlled region of Oidao. The S rank demons would have to cross the border and enter human territory illegally. But more than that, it was winter, so even if they did cross the border into Oidao, there would still be no black lotuses to be found. Undeterred, Orobas entered the human region and started his search. With the help of his rune magic, he could cast an illusion spell to make himself invisible until he found the seeds of a black lotus. Once back in the demon realm, Orobas planted the seeds and utilized his runes to cast nature magic on them and grew multiple black lotuses for the Lady he wanted to marry. He came third place, as a wealthier S rank had negotiated with the humans to buy a black lotus from them, and a competitor of the rogue class had stolen one of his a few days before.
The Lady’s second challenge was to bring her a white dragon’s scale. This was a nearly impossible task, as the territory where the dragons live was on the other side of the human kingdom. Even the Demon King felt it was unfair, so he negotiated with the humans to let the 3 suiters travel through the human kingdom. Once in the dragon lands, the 3 of them split up in search of a white dragon. The wealthy S rank found a dragon and negotiated with him. He would let the demon pull a dragon scale off his body, but only if the S rank gave the dragon one of his demon horns. One body part for another. The rogue tried to pull a scale off a dragon while he was sleeping, but he woke the dragon up and killed the rogue. As for Orobas, he found a white dragon and presented himself as such a great admirer of the dragon that he offered to clean up the dragon’s lair. As Orobas was cleaning, he discovered dragons regularly shed old scales. Instead of simply throwing out the old scales, he selected the best-looking ones and stashed them away, outside the dragon’s lair. After he was done cleaning the dragon’s lair, Orobas gathered the 5 best looking scales he had stashed away and returned with them to his human escort. He offered them 3 of the scales, 1 as a gift to the king of Zrephia and 2 for the adventurers, as a thanks for their services. This went a long way in improving human/demon relationships. Back in the demon lands, Orobas offered the 4th dragon scale to his liege, the Demon King, and the last one was offered to the Lady he is trying to wo.
Then came the third challenge, where the Lady requested the 2 remaining S ranks vying for her hand to fight each other in combat. During the duel, Orobas first seemed to have the upper hand, but his opponent had used his money to buy a lot of potions to help him overcome Orobas’ spells. The tide turned when his opponent was able to destroy the book with rune that Orobas always kept on him. Fortunately, Orobas was able to write the rune that would win him the duel in his own blood. The next day, Orobas stood at the altar with the wolf fiend lady as his bride, dressed in white dragon scale armor and a crown of black lotus flowers on her head.
Having become the duke of Annwn, Orobas finally had access to the wealth and power he needed to build the library of his dreams. While he was enjoying his research, his wife was permitted to rule over the province as if she was duke, which she was very grateful for. Eventually though, the Demon King was assassinated and the demon king’s brother wanted revenge. Though Orobas had a hard time believing the Zrephians would assassinate the Demon King just as relations between the kingdoms were going so well, the people in his province demanded action. Orobas took his wife’s legion and led them into battle. There were many fights, but eventually the demons took heavy losses and were defeated. Orobas may have survived, but many of his people did not and this would weigh on him. The Demon King who came out of the conflict declared it was better for the demons to live isolated from the other kingdoms, lest more wars break out and Orobas agreed with them.
Centuries later, when Ziges replaced the current Demon King, he quickly started talking about conquering the other kingdoms. Despite the last was being centuries in the past, Orobas still remembers the losses and the humiliation. He reasoned another such was would be a mistake, and so he sided against Ziges in the hopes of defeating him and preventing another war.
Being a believer of intellectual superiority, Orobas focused on strategy instead of brute strength and led his legion to many victories. He was however betrayed through trickery. A cohort from the former Demon King's legion that first presented itself as loyalist and slipped into Orobas' camp, flipped its loyalty to Ziges and delivered significant damage to Orobas' legion. During the night, they killed the guards in his camp and opened the gates for one of the rebel legions, including Ziges himself and several S ranks who had joined him. Orobas was brought before Ziges in chains and was told that he would be permitted to live, but only if he surrendered, so Orobas surrendered. Then Ziges cut off Orobas’ wings and told him that he could get them back after he has proven himself loyal.
