Chapter 12 by Torg Torg

What now?

Ookla and Dargal come back

In a few minutes, Ookla and Dargal come to you, and you sit down on the throne next to Lips. Una follows behind them and slips on your other side from Lips. She kisses your cheek and whispers, "He tell Ookla to meet you. That is all."

The two goblins stand before you. You gesture at the floor at your feet. "Sit."

First Dargal sits and then Ookla.

"I don't know your tongue, but Dargal knows mine. He will make my words into your tongue," you say. Dargal speaks to Ookla, and then Ookla nods at you.

"Is this home? Do you live here?" you ask. Lips snuggles her body close to yours, soaking up your heat. Una presses herself against your other side and nuzzles your neck. You could get used to living like this.

After conferring, Dargal says, "Here now, but other places too. We hunt." From your knowledge, many goblins live in mountain caverns, but some are more nomadic. These must be wanderers.

"Okay, what enemies here? Who will we raid?" you say, looking them both in the eyes.

Dargal's eyes go wide in surprise, then a grin cracks his face. He speaks excitedly to Ookla.

Una whispers, "He tell Ookla that you want to go to war."

Ookla shouts and then the rest of the troop shrieks as well. Then Ookla and Dargal talk quickly back and forth until Dargal turns to you and says, "Groogra stole our god and we want it back. But he always strong for us. Maybe we better with you."

You whisper to Una. "Who is Groogra?"

Una ponders, humming lightly. "Um. Groogra is, um, monster. I do not know what you call it."

Hmmm, an unknown monster. Though they didn't all die, so they must have at least been able to outrun it.

"So, you think we can take Groogra with my spells and your swords?" Dargal speaks to the leader goblin, and then they both nod to you.

Una whispers, "Groogra tough, but Tolin's goblins are tougher." She nibbles your earlobe.

"Okay, now tell me everything about Groogra and where it lives," you say. Between Dargal's translating and Una's whispering, the next two hours goes by. The other goblin's are sitting around the room, but everyone is listening intently. The situation sounds doable if your troop of goblins can catch Groogra out of its lair. It seems like the lair has traps and weapons that make it too unpredictable. At least they know where the lair is.

"Now, tell me about your warriors. Who are the best scouts, who can be silent and observant? Who are your strongest warriors? I need to know," you say. The next half hour is taken up in assessing your warriors. You learn that the goblin women also fight with two nasty-looking daggers each. They are usually opportunity attackers, picking off enemies who get past the front ranks.

What is your plan?
