Chapter 8 by Wakuna Wakuna

What's next?

On the road again

Sam was in a state of utter bafflement. One moment he had been holding the elevator open for this woman and the next she had pulled him down and had her way with him. He hadn't entirely processed that visceral burst of sudden sexuality when the woman- Maria- declared her love for him.

"I really think...no, I know in my heart of hearts," she looked at him with big expressive eyes, "that I love you. You're the man I'm meant to marry and have babies with."

He could only stare at the woman with a growing sense of unease. They had just met and now she was saying all that? It was clear that she wasn't well, and in his weaknesses he had enabled her mental instability.

Guilt soaked through every fibre of his being. How could he be so stupid? He had betrayed Amy! The love of his life and the best thing that ever happened to him! The pain of is adultery was enough that it choked the air in his lungs.

It was awkward, but Sam managed to push the Latina woman off him and quickly withdraw his cock back into his pants.

"Maria, um, listen," he drew himself up, "this was great and all, but I need to be on my way."

Her brown eyes went wide with shock. "Oh, no, please, don't go," her hands reached out and captured one of his, "I don't know how to explain it...but I just know we're meant to be together Sam, please, can't you come back to my place? I can make you something to eat and we can talk some more."

The sense of unease wouldn’t leave Sam, nor would that overriding sense of guilt and shame. But he had always been a curious person so he decided to play a long, to a point.

“You love me?” He asked cautiously, backing as much as he could against the wall, “but…Maria you just met me like two minutes ago. You don’t know anything about me!”

The older woman frowned a little, knowing that logically what he was saying was true but unable to ignore what she felt in her heart.

“It only took that one look,” she said, slowly, trying the words out as she spoke. “I knew inside that you were perfect for me. A manly man who could take care of me and father my future children. Please, won’t you just come back with me? I feel in my heart that you’re my future husband!”

Her words reminded him of Amy and stung bitterly. He needed to get back to her, he needed to get away from this situation. But of course Maria wasn’t going anywhere, she seemed intent on taking him home with her. Something needed to be done, some kind of appeasement needed to be made. He just had to get out of this damned elevator.

“Look,” he said, taking out his phone, “how about you give me your number and I can call you later, ok?”

A flood of relief washed across her eyes and she nodded enthusiastically. “Yes, great,” she dug out her own phone and Sam was briefly shocked to see a wallpaper of Maria and who he assumed were her teenage children. She tapped her phone against his, exchanging the information.

He felt uncomfortable, but the woman seemed momentarily satiated. So taking the initiative he stood up and pressed the button once again.

“Are you sure you don’t want to come back to my apartment?”

Sam tried to hide his discomfort. “I really have to be going. But, uh, I’ll definitely give you a call…”

There was the ding of the bell and Sam practically jogged out of the elevator, out of the building and back to his car.

He was five minutes into his driving when his phone went off. For one horrifying moment he thought it was Maria, but the caller ID listed Amy and a whole other hurricane of emotions came over him.

“Hello?”

“Hi Babe!” Her voice was sweet as honey, the most soothing thing he had ever heard, but right now it made him cringe. “Got a minute to talk?”

He swallowed. Should he just tell her? Get it off his chest right away that he had betrayed her trust in one stupid moment of adultery. But he thought about Amy in her entirety, how beautiful and kind and perfect she was. He knew in his heart of hearts that he would never find someone like her again, that he would never love anyone else the way he loved her. And he certainly didn’t intend to cheat on her anymore, so perhaps…he could pretend like it never happened? Maybe that would be for the best.

“I can talk,” he said at last. “It’ll make the drive go faster.”

“Well that’s good, because I need to vent,” she laughed wearily, “I just got off the phone with Mom and I think she’s a bit down. You know, with the divorce and seeing Dad on social media flaunting things with his new girlfriend, I think it’s really gotten to her. So…could I ask a favour?”

“Sure,”

“Could you swing by and check on her? I’d go myself but we’re swamped here. And I’m sure she’d be happy to see you.”

Sam hummed in agreement. “Yeah, I can do that.”

“Ohh thankyouthankyou!” Her voice got that breathy quality and he could hear that tinge of lust drip through the line. “When I get home tonight, I’m going to rock your world…”

“Don’t get me too worked up,” he laughed, “I’ll have an accident!”

They continued on exchanging sweet nothings until a flash of red and blue caught his attention and he was signalled to pull over….
