Chapter 9 by Wakuna Wakuna

What's next?

Law and Order

Officer Veronica Hart was gripping the steering wheel so hard her knuckles had gone bone white. Her day had been a series of annoyances that had only gotten more aggravating as they went on. Her golden retriever had left a particularly nasty mess at the foot of her bed that morning and her water heater was on the fritz which gave her a sputtering lukewarm shower. Things did not improve once she had gotten into the station and she was met with her contemptuous Chief who snarled at her for being two-three minutes late.

And then there was the text message she had received from Steve.

They had been going steady for about half a year and Veronica felt certain that this guy was the one. He was funny, he was smart and he made an effort to keep himself in shape. All the good things she needed from a man. And yet...things had hit a snag. Steve seemed distant every time they met up, a frown always tugging at the corners of his mouth. Despite her constant questioning about it, he would never tell her what his problem was.

Until that morning.

His text was succinct and brutal. He wanted to break up. No, he didn't love her anymore if he ever did. Yes, he found another woman. There was no offer of potential friendship, nothing positive at all. One text and seven months down the drain.

Veronica liked to think she took it in good stride. Internally she wanted to scream herself hoarse, she wanted break things, but she didn't do either. Instead she went about her day on traffic patrol, internally fuming about the evils of men.

She had already decided, getting out of her vehicle and approaching the man she had pulled over that she properly channel her rage into something constructive. His taillight was busted, that was an accident waiting to happen and she would make sure that this bozo got it looked at. A hefty ticket awaited him, worse if he even hinted at arguing with her.

Tapping on his driver's side window and getting him to wind it down, she peered at the guy with barely contained contempt.

The guy swallowed uneasily. "Problem, officer?"

"Licence and registration," she bit out, trying and failing to keep the rage from bursting out of her throat.

He fumbled around for a second before producing them. She watched him in silence, ready to recite her spiel on how his taillight was a hazard and how he was putting people at risk with his idiocy and laziness. But the words died immediately when she spotted the ring on his finger.

Veronica looked at this guy again with new eyes. He wasn't lazy at all. He was considerate and kind. Really kind. He would do anything for someone in need, she just knew it. She felt it deep inside that this was the most compassionate, kind man she had ever met. There were things that came up in her own life that would be really inconvenient, but she knew this guy would always try his best to help her. She was so lucky that this guy was going to be her husband and that they were going to spend the rest of their lives together.

She glanced at his licence before handing it back. Sam. Her future husband’s name was Sam. The name sounded great. Sam. Her Sam. Her husband.

“Officer?” He asked again.

Her hand cupped his cheek gently and the smile she gave him was full of affection. A moment later she had leant down and kissed him with all the passion she could bring to bare. He tasted so good! His mouth was so familiar, his squirming tongue the perfect sparring partner for her own!

Suddenly he broke away with a gasp. “What the hell was that!?”

“Sam, you don’t have to be shy with me. We’re going to be married after all.”

“What do you…” his eyes widened, “oh no, Jesus this can’t be happening again…”

Veronica leered at him, feeling breathy and excited. She began to unbutton her uniform, freeing her bra-clad breasts. “I know this naughty, what with me being on duty and all, but you’re also so considerate and helpful Sam….so why don’t we do it? C’mon, I’m feeling frisky. Let’s do it right here on the side of the road!”

How does Sam react?
