Chapter 18 by amanhasnoname430 amanhasnoname430

What's next?

Oliver Queen

"It's a beautiful morning. Come on, a run could do us some good." Said Oliver. I snapped out of it and grabbed the outfit.

"Thanks," I said eagerly. I had begrudgingly taken off my Iron Heights outfit heeding the Flash's advice. I was thankful to have new clothes. If I was caught in this, I at least got to go for a run with Oliver Queen. The clothes were very nice, they hugged my arms and torso tightly but breathed. The pants were a little rougher and the shoes were just my size.

Alice and my Mom were also in shock at seeing Oliver. "Would you uh. Like to come in?" My Mom nervously asked him.

"That's very kind of you Ms. Longhouse but we're gonna head out. You ready?" He sounded a little impatient. I nodded and waved the girls good bye and ran off after him down the stairs.

We didn't talk but we ran. We ran so fucking far I couldn't believe it. I was able to keep track of the first 2 or 3 miles but after that it all went by in a blur. We ran down to the city center and then along the waterfront. Places I had only been once or twice in my life. And never in nice clothes like these. We ran through the artsy districts and then through the big park in the middle of town. We ran passed the statue of the Green Arrow and I briefly wondered about Oliver. He knew Laurel, he could clearly run like a machine, he looked fit enough and the right build for the Arrow. Also if he wanted to keep an eye on me, this was the best way to do it.

I saw him begin to breath harder. I was chugging along perfectly fine next to him. I worried that I wasn't actually training though, my muscles were capable of handling as much running as I wanted. It took maybe 3 hours before he came to a stop in a wooded area just outside the main city. "Okay, okay. You actually can't get tired. That's really cool." He said looking me over.

"You were trying to tire me out? Put weights on me." I said trying to help. He panted and drank some water. He offered it to me but I declined.

"You need fluids or you'll die. Again." He said with a smile.

"I don't need to drink or eat. I never get tired. Save the water for you." I said smiling back. If he was the Arrow I was keeping pace with him and it felt good. I decided to be bold.

"So you're the Arrow then. Are you going to train me?" I asked trying to gauge his reaction. He went honest with it.

"Yes, you have endurance and strategy but you lack control. I watched your fight at your school. You could've ended it in half the time. You had the strength for it." He didn't deny being the Arrow and he was, of course, right about my lack of control.

"I was going to look for a way to get out of school to workout. I had no idea how I was going to do either, so I'm glad you showed up." I said.

"Good, you are aware of your weakness. This should be fun." He grinned somewhat evilly but we got to work.

His training felt like a lot of kung fu movies where the lessons are deeper than they seem. He had me slap water, he had me string a bow which sucked worse than it looked, he had me actually shoot arrows, and then he had me meditate between each exercise. I was bad at pretty much all of it. My endurance mattered very little in actual knowledge of my strength and I tore up my body very quickly.

I was more impressed with his archery after trying the bow for myself. It was insanely hard to pull on the string and then the arrow went wherever the fuck it wanted. How he could hit a guy while jumping through a window was beyond me.

He let me take a nap for an hour mid day which was awesome but he wanted me to focus while sleeping. Something about feeling the environment and myself. I tried to be more open than the usual student in those movies, (this is stoopid I'm outta here) since this guy could literally jump across rooftops and shoot people with arrows.

I lied there in the grass and felt the breeze. I tried so hard to feel the environment and everything but I couldn't do it. I felt myself, my inner energy and nothing happened there either. I wondered if I should tell Oliver about my mind ability. What if he made me stop doing it?

I got up to see he had drawn a big long line in the dirt. It must have been 200 yards long or so. I walked over to him and sat on a rock.

"Aren't you worried you're wasting your time with me? I'm a Gamma from the Glades." I asked.

"You're a Gamma who has risen almost 4000 points in a week. If you keep this up you'll be an alpha by the end of the month. You have to walk before you can run. I don't expect you to understand the finer points of sensing your surroundings or yourself but you have to start somewhere. You're doing great kid." He put his hand on my shoulder. "Just don't get lazy!" He pointed a finger at my face on that. "Okay, you seemed to think that weighing you down would help with your running. Endurance is your strong suit so let's improve that shall we? Here. Put this on." He handed me an armor looking thing. It was heavy... like 100 pounds, I could barely lift it. I started to put it on.

"What is this thing?"

"Deathstroke's armor. I refitted it for weight training after I saw you running around. How does it fit?" He asked.

It was loose. That's no surprise Deathstroke was a fucking monster. "It doesn't fit at all." I said.

He quickly went over to my shoulders and hit the straps and the thing tightened around me. Still loose but better. "That works." I said smiling.

"Alright, you have endurance unweighted. I want you to do 20 laps of this line out and back with this thing on. Let's see how you do. GO!" I started running. My muscles were crying and screaming as I ran. Every step was painful and every yard was agonizing. I got back to Oliver and I was straining. I couldn't give up though, that was my only goal today. I started lap two and then three. Eventually I was able to tune out the pain and get the job done.

I passed Oliver on the 20th lap and hit the straps to let the suit off. "Fuck that thing. It doesn't breath like these clothes do." I said panting.

"Now 20 laps unweighted." Oliver said without flinching. I looked at him for any hint that he was kidding and then sighed and ran off.

My running was butter smooth now. My muscles still aches but everything felt lighter. The air on my skin was cooling me off and I was able to run faster than before. I ran passed him after 20 laps and he smiled.

"6 minutes. After everything you've done today you still closed up with a 6 minute run. You were much faster than you were this morning. I think we can call it a day." He said proudly. "Let's run back, grab the stuff." He said pointing to a big bag. I put it on and we ran back to my apartment. I thought he was going to run straight back but he took us on the same route we took this morning. By the time we got back to my apartment I was gasping for air. I dropped the bag on the doorstep and collapsed on the pavement.

"Good work! You should feel good about this. I want you to practice meditating and hitting the water if you can. Here, work with this too if you find time." He handed me a bow. As tired as I was I stood up and took it from him.

"Thanks, today was fucking hell but I loved it." I said smiling.

"Good, see you next week?" He asked through staggered breath.

"Next week? Yeah for sure. Oh do you want these back?" I asked pointing to the outfit.

"Nah, keep em. I'll see you Friday." He said heading to his car.

"Yeah, see ya." I yelled back.

What's next?
