Chapter 3
by Ggnt
Do they play the game?
Of course
It was a long drive to the cottage. By the time they arrived it was already dark. Brenda helped her friends bring all their stuff inside. It was a three bedroom cottage and there were four of them, but Brenda and Chloe had already agreed to share a room since the boys weren't keen on that idea. Brenda was happy to share a bed if it meant getting the ensuite. Chuck and Gabe were great, but she didn't want to share a bathroom with them. Brenda was in her room unpacking when she found the board game. Chloe was behind her so she tried to hide it but it was too late.
"What's that?" Chloe asked, "Oh my god, is that a game? Come on, spill."
Brenda knew she was caught, "Fine. Ya I found it at some weird shop downtown. I've never heard of it. I even tried googling it and got nothing. It's totally unique."
Chloe clapped her hands, "Ok. We're playing. Tonight!"
Brenda shook her head, "No way. I'm exhausted. The guys are too. We can play tomorrow night."
Chloe ignored her, "Guys!" She yelled into the hall, "Get it here! Brenda found a game!"
Immediately the two of them rushed in, "What game?" They both asked.
"Look!" Chloe stole the game from Brenda to show them, "Want to play now?"
"Sure" Chuck replied.
"I'm in." Said Gabe.
"Oh fine. You win," Brenda relented, "But we need beer and snacks first."
"Uh, duh!" Chloe said smiling, "We're on it, right guys?"
The four of them had been friends since middle school. Even as they started finding new interests and new friends they still remained close. Chloe had been a real party girl in high school, head cheerleader too. She'd barely made it into college but one day she'd just given that all up, buckled down, and today she was a successful civil engineer. Gabe had taken the opposite path. He'd been a mathlete when they'd all met but ended up skipping post secondary to join a grunge band. He was still a musician, successful enough to live off, but only barely. Chuck and Brenda had actually dated throughout high school, but both of them decided it wasn't worth doing long distance. Chuck had gone off to West Point and from there done a short tour overseas before being honorable discharged due to injury. Brenda was the only one still in school, slowly working on her thesis. If you asked her to explain her research she'd initially be thrilled, but that would soon wane as your eyes glossed over in boredom.
They got their drinks and their snacks and settled in at the table. Since it was her find, Brenda was the one to open the box and read the instructions, "Ok it says, place the board in the center. Easy. Ok, there are 5 piles are cards, they are already shuffled, don't peek at them and place them in the center. Ok done. So we each take turns rolling this die," Brenda held up a normal 6 sided dice, "and we move our token forward that amount. Person to your left draws a card from the pile matching the square we land on and reads it to you. It might be a question or a task, we resolve the card and end our turn. Huh, this is serious," Brenda joked, "it says _Once the game begins no players may abandon the game until a winner is declared. Attempting to leave the game area will result in a punishment. By mutual agreement players may agree to delay the next turn by up to 24 hours once every 4 turns. Okay guys, no quitters or I'll have to punish you!"
Chloe laughed, "Oooh, I'm so scared."
"So how do we win? First one to the end? That's kind of lame." Gabe remarked.
Brenda looked down at the instructions again, "Ya. It says first one to the end wins and gets a wish, whatever that means. It can't just be who rolls the highest, I wonder if the cards can move us back and forth."
Chuck nodded, "That would make sense. Let's just play. Who goes first?"
"Brenda should, it was her find." Chloe suggested.
That was fine with Brenda. She picked up the dice and rolled it, "A 2!" She moved her piece two spots. The square showed a dollar sign.
Chuck picked a card and read it to her, "Move forward 5 spaces and do not draw another card. See, it's not just dice rolls, although maybe it is just luck."
Brenda moved her token forward. The square she was on now showed a stick, or a wand maybe. Well it didn't matter right now, "Ok Chuck is up next."
Chuck smiled and tossed the dice. It landed on 3 and a square that almost looked like a %. Chloe read his card, "Oh, it's truth or dare. Oh you have to pick before I read the rest, but truth is -1 square and dare is +3."
Chuck laughed, "Well I'll be bold then. Dare."
Chloe nodded and read the card, "I dare you to take off your shirt and give it to me."
Chuck grinned and quickly stripped off his t-shirt. Brenda bit her lip as she looked at him. It had been a long time since they dated, and she wasn't really interested in a relationship with him again, but he was even more ripped now than he'd been back then. She had to admit, on a purely physical level she was still attracted to him.
Chloe too obviously, she was practically salivating as she took his shirt. As a joke she put it on herself, "Fits me just fine, I think I'll keep it." Of course it looked like she was wearing a bedsheet, but that was part of the fun. "Anyway, it's my turn next! A 4, oh another true or dare maybe?" Her square had the same symbol as Chuck's.
Gabe picked up a card and read it, "Ya. You gotta pick. Yours is different though, +3 for a truth, +1 for a dare."
Chloe shrugged, "Weird. Well I'm not falling behind, truth!"
Gabe read the rest of the card, "Say an embarrassing secret you don't want the rest of us to know about."
Chloe giggled, "Oh sure. I...I...I masturbated to the thought of sleeping beside Brenda during this trip." Immediately she clamped her hand over her mouth and shrieked, "No. I didn't mean to say that," She turned to Brenda, "That's not...fuck."
Brenda looked at her friend, confused, "That's not funny Chloe."
Chloe shook her head, "I know. I'm sorry. I didn't mean to say that...I was going to say a joke, but then...I don't know what happened."
Brenda was concerned, but Chuck waved it off, "Forget about it Brenda. You know how she is. It's just a game right? Let's move on, Gabe you're up."
Gabe rolled a 5, which was another reward tile. Brenda read it out, "Give this card to the player. It can be used to prevent 1 future punishment from being applied to that player. Oh, like a get out of jail free card."
Gabe nodded and took it, "Ok, cool. Let's keep going we haven't even hit some of these card types yet."
What does Brenda get?
