As we stepped out of Mario's Trattoria, our stomachs full and content, the cool night air greeted us with a gentle breeze. The bustling streets of St. Louis had quieted down somewhat, giving way to a more peaceful atmosphere. With the orange glow of the streetlights casting a warm hue on the sidewalks, Grace and I decided to take a leisurely walk and further explore the city.

As we strolled along, I couldn't help but think back on my failed attempts to use the ring's power earlier in the day. The more I pondered, the more I began to suspect that there must be some key factor I was missing. Perhaps the ring required a certain level of absurdity to be activated?

The city was alive with the soft hum of conversation, punctuated by the occasional laughter from groups of friends and couples enjoying their night out. The sweet aroma of desserts from nearby bakeries and cafes filled the air, enticing us to indulge in one final treat for the evening.

As we reached a small park nestled between the city's towering buildings, I mustered up the courage to test the ring's influence once more. This time, however, I decided to try a different tactic. With a deep breath, I turned to Grace and prepared to make my bold proposition.

"Hey, Grace," I said hesitantly, my heart pounding in my chest. "What if we... I don't know, spontaneously decided to go skydiving tomorrow? You know, just for the thrill of it?"

I held my breath, anxiously waiting for Grace's reaction. To my surprise, she burst out laughing, her eyes twinkling with amusement. "You're hilarious, John! As much as I'd love to see the look on your face as you plummeted through the sky, I think I'll pass on that one. Besides, I've got to head back home tomorrow."

My heart sank as I realized that my latest attempt had also failed. The ring's power remained dormant, leaving me more puzzled than ever. It was clear that the level of absurdity in my suggestion wasn't the key either. As we continued our walk, I felt the weight of the unanswered questions pressing down on me.
