Chapter 4
by SmallestStories
And you wake up.
Now, it is dark in here.
You slowly open your eyes... Or do you ? It is so dark in here, you could as well be blind. But you could also feel that you were laid down on something hard and warm. When you started turning around, your shoulder hitting something above you, which didn't move an inch, you remembered : you died. You got killed by some burglar in your family's house.... But how were you so convinced that you were alive then ?
This was no priority for now, as you thought : if you were really alive, after getting killed, for some reason... Then you could only be in one place : buried, laid down inside of a coffin, under god knows how much dirt.
As the realisation set in, panic started to overcome you quickly. You tried to push the top of the coffin, to no avail. Your heart was beating faster and faster, you wanted to yell, yet you knew that no one would hear, and you had to at least save your breath. You had to remember if you ever saw something about being buried alive.... Yes, you remembered : you had to keep calm and steady your breath first.
At first, you didn't fully know if you could, but with deep, long breaths, you ended up putting your hands by your sides, calming down slowly, yet effectively. Next step : find a way to break free, which was easier said than done. In total darkness, you started feeling around yourself, the edges of the coffin, its top, its bottom. The more you felt, the more convinced you were that there were no exit.
Panic started coming back. You were alone, with limited air, and.... A gift from whoever that voice could be.
Void. That was its name. You didn't know how to use it, but really, it was your only chance at this point. Focusing on... Whatever could be a sensation of emptiness in you, you pushed your hands against the top of the coffin, closing your eyes to help you concentrate (which was useless in the dark of the coffin). You didn't know what to focus on, so you tried letting out whatever the Void could be. Once, twice, thrice, more and more... All in vain.
You started feeling hollow, knowing that you'd be back dead in little time if you couldn't do anything, and your heart froze for an instant. For one instant...
And you felt it.
It was somewhere, a faint power, but you couldn't miss it, and you couldn't think of anything else than the Void. So, you tried using this power, and you pushed once more.
Give it a little nudge.
A Slightly Wrong World
Or how to mess up one's
Continuing with the strange worlds topic, we have this time just a slightly wrong world, so close from our own, yet so far. Get a seat, grab a drink, don't mind the people fighting over the possibility of coming back to life, and follow your adventure.
