Nothing but a dull ache

Claire didn’t hear the concrete blocks fall nor the Indominus Rex’s footsteps or horrendous roar. She didn’t hear or feel much of anything as soon as she closed her eyes. All she could feel was a dull ache on the right side of her head. She wanted to touch it and make it stop but she couldn’t. She couldn’t feel her limbs. She couldn’t feel the touch of anything really. She tried to open her eyes but couldn’t. She tried her best to move anything and everything. It felt like she was drowning. She could still breathe but her body felt sluggish and tired.

She tried to move again, ‘reaching the surface’ as she put it, but her body grew tired, and she went back into the depths. She tried and tried again, but all her mental focus into opening her eyes or touching that ache on the side of her head. Each time she did, it would end in failure. However, each time she also felt it getting easier to muster her wits. She was gaining more focus as she pushed herself.

After her umpteenth time, she breached the surface and awoke with a gasp.

Her eyes snapped open, and she scanned the world around her. It was dark with only a little light shining through the cracks above her. Memories of what happened flashed through her head and panic took over. Was the Indominus still out there? Was Owen hurt? How long has she been here? Oh god, is she stuck here?!

She frantically moved about, finding that her limbs were not pinned. Her streak of luck continued as she pushed a block of rubble in front of her and found it easy to move. She pushed and created an opening for her to crawl out of. She crawled forward but something behind her snagged and stopped her. She glanced back and saw that her dress shirt she tied to her waist and her skirt was pinched under some heavy-looking rubble. She frantically kicked and pushed against it to free herself but found it impossible. The debris was too heavy to move.
