Not yet, but someone else does

Detective Halloran's long absence leads the desk sergeant to tell Officer Christine Sluchek to check out the situation and report back.

The petite young officer reaches the interview room and knocks. She asks if Louise is all right. Getting no answer, the wiry brunette tries the knob, which refuses to turn. Her worry growing, Sluchek puts her ear to the door and tries to determine what is going on inside. Are those groans? Is the walk-in doing something to Detective Halloran? Sluchek is sure the veteran cop can handle herself, but why isn't she answering?

As the officer ponders her next move, she feels a thud and hears the whisper of a scream. This is getting serious! As the thuds continue, she makes up her mind. Unholstering her weapon, she steps to the side and aims at the lock. She squeezes off two shots and then kicks at the door, which flies inward.
