"Family is important!" stated Delvers saddly. "But the descission of the cards is final."
Delvers then headed to the door of the saloon.
"Ok you losers." Delvers called out as he headed for the entrance."Meet me outside for the showdown. Any of you need guns, see one of my men."
Lisa cast a quick glance at those who would be shortly facing John Delvers.
One was vomiting, one was crying, the last seemed resigned to his fate.
And then there was Billy Connors. The only one of the losers who was actually armed, and Lisa doubted he had even fired a gun at another person before.
"Harry Usher approached Billy with a gunbelt.
"Just $15." Usher told Billy. "Pay me when you win."
Usher left it unsaid that he would simply reclaim the gunbelt when Billy most likely lost.
Lisa watched Usher with open hatred. She was tempted to gun him down here and now but reasoned that the Lynchers and the Laughing Man guards would soon cut her down and Billy would still have to face John Delvers. Lisa turned to face Beth.
"I will save him, Beth!" Lisa promised the distraught young girl. "But I can't do it in here. You just have to trust me."
"I do trust you!" Beth replied as she wiped tears from her eyes.
Soon Billy and the other losers were marching out to meet Delvers. They were soon followed by the majority of the town. Lisa and Beth joined them as exited the Laughing Man saloon.
