Nicole (Sarah's sadistic scheme)

In his seat, Tom pushed deep into the hat in search of a name. When he grabbed one and brought it up to read, his face fell once more. "Nicole again," he sighed, his eyes flitting up to stare at the petite blonde across the room. She did her best to return his gaze through her heavy rimmed glasses, but when he winked smugly at her she just rolled her eyes and looked away, uninterested. That brief interaction seemed to give Tom some inspiration, as he returned her name to the hat before looking at her again.

"You're straight, right?" He asked bluntly, drawing a blush to Nicole's pale cheeks as she quickly looked back to him again. Behind her glasses, her eyes went wide with anxious curiosity.

"Y-yes?" she stuttered in response, completely taken aback by the unexpected question.

"And you're single?" He continued, making Nicole's cheeks flush even deeper. This was sounding more and more like he was about to proposition her, which was probably the last thing Nicole wanted.

"Yeeess. . ." she answered more carefully this time, her eyes darting around the room like she was searching for an escape route.

"Perfect," Tom clapped his hands together, "I dare you to text whatever guy in class you're most attracted to, but we all get to write the message." Nicole looked relieved, despite the content of the dare. Minor embarrassment was nothing compared to Tom coming on to her.

"Ooh, nice one Tom," Miranda laughed, leaning forward in her seat. Being topless had done little to dampen her spirits, and now she sat ready to keep playing even with just a slender forearm to cover her nipples. Taking part in someone else's minor torment would at least give her a sense of schadenfreude, even if it didn't make her any warmer.

"Everyone else down for this?" Tom asked, looking around the room. A chorus of agreements and a wave of nods was the answer, with the whole room ready to play this new game.

From beneath herself, Nicole drew a particularly old and blocky smartphone. Since her outfit had no pockets she had obviously been sitting on it for safekeeping, like an egg. After just a few seconds of tapping and swiping, she said "okay, I'm ready."

"I’ll start: 'hey daddyy~'" Tom said, "and make sure to use two y’s. Oh, and that squiggly hyphen at the end.”

"You mean a tilde?" Nicole asked. Her thumbs had begun to move, but they stopped to seek confirmation from Tom. Like everything else in her life, Nicole was taking this seriously.

"Yeah that," Tom nodded. Sarah doubted he actually knew the name of that piece of punctuation, but she knew he would absolutely act like he did just to get a rise from Nicole.

Tom's embarrassing opener for Nicole's message seemed to encourage the others to join in, and soon even John was making suggestions for what else to say. Everyone was involved, save for Matt and Sarah. Matt's general anxiety and the fact he was happy just have an arm around his crush kept him quiet, whereas Sarah was silent for a different reason.

The little game Tom had created seemed fun, but she still had other priorities. Whilst everyone was yelling and talking over each over, now seemed like the perfect time to pay a little more attention to her couch companion. On the other hand, an opportunity so perfect for teasing Nicole might not present itself for a while, and if Sarah joined in she could steer the conversation in even more mortifying directions.
