Next letter

It has been 9 months now since my failed awakening ceremony. A lot has happened since then. Leena has adapted to using her fire magic and is using it for some menial things. Like using it to light the furnace in the kitchen, or the wooden logs in the fireplace. Just small things to help with everyday life. Lorenzo has also thought her how to throw fireballs, but she doesn’t really use her magic like that. Though all the non-fire spells she learned before her awakening are now blocked off for her and that is because of her awakening. Since I failed my awakening, I still have access to all the other spells. I guess not getting awakened has its benefits.

Despite us having had our awakening attempts, Lorenzo still asks for threesomes once every month. I am still not fine with doing it with my sister. I am neither into lesbianism nor ****. He has been spending more time in his workshop. A lot more time. Some days, he is in there the whole day. I was confused. Real gems? But he was already doing that. He even showed me with that quartz he created right in front of me. That’s when he told me the secret he has been hiding from me. When a crystal mage makes a crystal from nothing, he usually always makes quartz, because quarts is an easy one to make. When it comes to real gems, like rubies, diamonds and emeralds, it is very difficult. When it comes to gems like those, crystal mages normally only use their magic to split them in half, merge them together or change their shape. But not to create new ones out of nothing. So, for all this time Lorenzo has been living here, he has been creating quartz in different colors. Then he has Ryan pick up a bag of blue quartz and travel somewhere far away to sell them as sapphires. He can’t sell them nearby, because if their trick gets discovered, they can track Ryan to Lorenzo. Ryan also never sells at the same place twice, again to avoid the risk of getting caught.

To say that I was shocked is an understatement. The man I’ve been looking up to has been a fraud this whole time. He makes his money not because of any real craft but because of forgery. I was so disappointed in him and I started feeling the baby I was carrying might have been a mistake.

But then Lorenzo explained that me being pregnant made him want to create real gems. Not blue quartz, but actual true sapphires. Becoming a father made him afraid that if the people he and Ryan scammed end up finding him, they would end up hurting our child. So, if by the time they find him he has discovered how to make real gems, their evidence against him won’t hold water and will instead make it seem that someone tried to frame him. The problem is that in order to make real gems, he first needs to buy real gems and disassemble them. And gems, real ones that is, are very expensive. More expensive than what Ryan has been selling the fake ones for. So, not only does Lorenzo need to spend time in his workshop to disassemble real gems and research how to craft new ones. He also needs to keep making fake gems for Ryan to sell. That way, he'd make the money necessary to buy the real gems and disassemble them.

I must say, hearing him explain himself like that makes me feel a lot better. He is looking to the future. To try and make our child’s life safe and not based on lies. He will even do it by taking the lie he started with, and will work to making it the truth. To turn from making fake gems to making real gems. That is something I can live with. All he needs to do is invent a method of crystal crafting that hasn’t been invented yet. Well, as long as he gets there.

I did ask him to spend more time around the house, or at least in the garden, where he can get some sunlight. It would be much healthier for him and he will have an easier time to write down his findings. He can always take those papers to his workshop later. When Lorenzo promised me he would do all of that … I don’t know. Hearing him say that he would change his life for the better for me … it just made me so incredibly horny for him. Amelia catches on to what I was accusing Kiara of and says, “Hey yeah! You should have known that real gems cannot be created. So, when the letters first brought it up, you should have known it was a lie.”

“I knew that the libraries in both the castle and also in the dark dragon guild don’t mention anything about crafting real gems.” Kiara admits. “So yes, I noticed the irregularity here. The thing is, I was hoping that Lorenzo might have actually found a way to craft real gems. It would be a big find. And if this letter is anything to go from, he was actually putting in the research to try and figure it out. I am hoping for one of the next letters to confirm he discovered a way to do it.”

“Alright. I’m curious too now.” Amelia says. “Let’s read the next letter.”

This time Amelia picks up the letter and starts reading.

It has been half a year since last I wrote down my thoughts. Lorenzo has kept his word and started making his gems outside of his workshop. First, he creates a couple of fake gems for Ryan. He typically makes them all of the same color. One day he does a bunch of fake rubies, the next day it is fake sapphires, and so forth. When he is finished with his daily production, he starts researching the real gems.

He has spent a lot of time taking sapphires apart. By doing so, he noticed that the sapphires turn into two types of metallic dust. He separated them and when he had enough of each, he placed them on a bowl and had me and Leena use fire magic to melt the dust into a liquid. Lorenzo knew it would be difficult for untrained mages like us, so he had prepared mana potions for us. Once we succeeded in melting the metal dust, Lorenzo poured it into a small mold he had prepared and let it cool off. He later took the metals to the crafter’s guild in Riledo to be identified. They told him the large piece was aluminum and the smaller piece was titanium and offered to buy them. Instead, Lorenzo bought more aluminum and titanium from them. Since then, he has been trying to turns these metals back into sapphires.

In the meantime, I have been planting obroil flowers in the garden. I heard that they can be used in alchemy to be turned into mana potions. Once I have enough, I can use my cooking skills to make mana potions for Lorenzo. That should surely help him in his research. As I waited for the obroil flowers to sprout, my belly had been growing bigger until eventually a healthy son came out. He is one month by now and he looks so cute when he nurses from my nipples. Though I’m afraid my little Diego has to compete with his father, because Lorenzo sometimes also wants to drink some milk from my boobs.

Yesterday, however, Lorenzo came to me while I was nursing the baby. He had a big smile on his face and then showed me the small blue pebble in his hands. He did it. The first true sapphire he made. It was very small though. It apparently took a lot of mana to make. But now that he figured it out, he can easily add to it and make it bigger. Though it will likely take a whole week until he finally has a sapphire big enough to sell. He did it. He made a real gem. And from the looks of it, he is already looking forward to inventing how to craft real rubies as well.

“That is what I was waiting for.” Kiara says. “The guy legitimately discovered how to craft real gems. That is a big discovery.”

“Uhm, Darx? I-is it normal for f-full grown men to want to d-drink m-milk from a w-woman’s …” Amelia asks, developing more of a blush as her sentence develops.

Kiara also turns her head to me as well and both women are waiting for my answer.

I blink a few times and say, “Damn. I never thought about doing something like that.”

“Anyways, there’s another letter.” Amelia says to get us back on topic. “Let’s see of Lorenzo succeeded with the other gems as well.”
