Mystery Lovers

After getting out of the shower and finding herself with nothing to do until it was time to prepare dinner, Victoria dug one of her biggest passions back from her bag, a book. She was addicted to mystery novels and the one she was currently reading was getting really good.

She didn’t have too much time to read since she arrived on the cabin, but now she intended to make up for lost time. ”This time I’ll try to read more than just a couple of pages.” She thought with a smile as she made her way to the deck outside.

The green eyed blonde was so embedded in the sudden twists and clues of the crime in the story that she completely blocked out any noise from around.

That was how Zack found her after he got out of his shower. Of course he knew that Victoria was one of the smartest girls on their year at school, but somehow he didn’t imagine that she was the kind of girl to enjoy books on her free time. Seeing as he was a big fan of reading himself, he decided to ask her what book she was reading.

“So,” He asked, plopping down on a chair beside her. “What are you reading?”

Victoria actually looked a little startled to be interrupted, turning to him with a hand on her chest. “Oh, it’s you, Zack,” She acknowledged with a nervous smile. “I wasn’t expecting anyone to join me here for a while.”

“Sorry I scared you.” Zack returned her smile.

“It’s okay,” She said as she showed him the cover of her book. “I’m reading this novel that I picked up last week, it’s really cool and intriguing.”

For a moment, Zack couldn’t believe it. Then he looked at the cover for a second time and still had a hard time wrapping his mind around it. Victoria had the same taste in books as he had, and he never knew about it.

“Interesting, do you really like mystery novels?” He asked, voicing his doubt.

Victoria nodded enthusiastically. “Yeah, it’s my favorite genre,” She answered, her green eyes seemingly twinkling. “I can lose myself for hours trying to decipher those mysteries before I finish reading the whole book.”

“I can’t believe it,” He shook his head, laughing. “I’m a huge fan of mystery stories as well. As a matter of fact, I’ve already read the one you have in your hands right now.”

“Oh, does it have a good ending?” She asked, her eyes widening. “Wait! Don’t tell me, please, I want to find out on my own.”

Zack smiled mischievously. “Alright then, I won’t tell.” He assured her, and then he began to laugh.

“What?” Victoria asked, raising one perfect shaped eyebrow.

“Nothing, it’s just that I’ve never could get Chloe or Gavin truly interested on mystery stories,” Zack told her. “And here you were, a fellow addicted just a few feet away.”

Now it was Victoria who laughed. “Yeah, now that you put it that way, had I know that you liked these kinds of stories, we could have been discussing them for ages by now.” She agreed. “I just think that it’s a shame that our school didn’t let the mystery club reopen two years ago.”

Zack nodded. “Yeah, I was the one that tried to get it reopened,” He told her. The mystery club was a school club that discussed mystery novels and movies, kind of like a book club. “They’ve told me that only one person had applied for membership, so they couldn’t let it open with just two members.”

“I can’t believe it, I was the one that applied for the membership,” Victoria said. “At the time I was sad ‘cause I didn’t make the cheerleading squad, so I turned back to my favorite hobby for an escape.”

“Damn, we could have met even before I got to know Brandon.” Zack realized out loud.

The blonde smiled. “Well, look on the bright side, now we didn’t completely miss out on each other,” she said in a comforting way. “We can talk about mysteries whenever we want. Or, after I finish this book, I think.”

“Fair enough.” Zack grinned. For someone who was looking for something in common with Victoria, the tables had turned in his favor on the most spectacular way possible.
