Chapter 8 by Bartw32rt
What is it about these bites?
Mutations
You have to understand dear reader that Stan doesn’t know what he is. Sarah, who is in his eyes his mom, didn’t tell him anything about the crash landing. There were only these flashes that kept coming back to him where he had the feeling that he was falling. But without context, he couldn’t really piece anything together.
It is important to know that Stan doesn’t know he isn’t from this earth, since otherwise he could know that his biting is different from a human. Understanding that Stan has no clue what he is, IS in fact one of the reasons he will have a choice later on in the story.
Now, you have already read something prior about Stan. The word “mutation” popped up and it having to do with a great amount of stem cells. It is time to give a deeper explanation to these words by explaining you how Stan’s race works.
It is actually quite simple. There are two ways for the creature that is Stan to mutate. First there is the way humans do it, with there being a string of data getting added to the already existing data. Which happens because of certain circumstances like rays from the sun hitting the surface of the skin over and over again or smoking.
As you may be aware these mutations can take years to be visible. Decades to fester in a family line. And a lot longer to add to the complete gene pool. Which is only good, since a process like this is of a delicate nature. If something goes wrong and it is therefore already implemented in the whole species, not even talking about different climates, it would be disastrous.
But then comes the second way in which Stan’s species can mutate. Which is a way of interchanging stem cells with its victim to then copy their mutations. And since this is done individually and won’t have an effect on their offspring, it makes sure that there is a high survivability as long as the gene pool is one that is high.
This only ‘sort off’ explains the first bite that Stan made when he was a baby. Which was one to mutate itself for the first time, while his stem cells healed its victim. Though it also did something else entirely.
You see, the creature that is Stan has a higher psychic ability with its stem cells. Which is a weird thing that most scientists wouldn’t understand. Luckily this is a story, so here is the simple version of it.
The bite would interchange these stem cells. Meaning that there would also be some in the victims body. Which would fester in there and could serve the role of domesticating its victim. Though this was mostly reserved for lesser beings. Which, unfortunately for Sarah and Eliorah, meant that they were infected with an obedience parasite.
The plus side is that Stan doesn’t know this. Though he can use it instinctively…which now makes sure that both Sarah and Eliorah don’t talk about being bitten. While making them behave a lot more nice towards Stan.
How does Stan figure out he can mutate?

To be a hero
To make the right decisions
This story will center itself around the main character: the hero. Well…at least that is what he will be at the start. You have to understand dear reader, that most villains in real life aren’t inherently evil. They themselves do believe that what they are doing is the right thing. To clarify, this story does start out as a heroic tale. It is in fact a little generic. For example, it is set in the glorious country of the United States. The hero does at the start believe in the workings of a democracy. The hero…gets the girls? That last one isn’t true. What a shame really. Well, it isn’t like this slight derailing of the story would result in a complete different story. Or…would it?
