Mentored Training 4

Sol jumps up on the couch as soon as she sits down, and the healer chuckles at the loud, happy meows coming from her cat. She takes a sip of her tea, sets it down on the table in front of us, and starts to stroke Sol’s soft fur as she listens to the conversation at hand. “How much power do you think Skylar has now?” Mia asks.

“By the way she was able to throw you back with a burst of her magic, I would say her power levels have increased by a substantial amount. The most accurate measurement can probably be taken with Gemma’s ‘observe’ spell to determine what level she is by your gamer system.” Olivia says, still clearly unused to the terminology.

I nod in response. “I’ll do that after she wakes up. I want to make sure she’s okay first before checking her power levels.” I say. “She is okay, I can promise you that.” Olivia reassures me. I give her a small smile. “I know, but I’m still worried for her.” I reply. “Well, since we have a bit of time before she wakes up, and we’re all a bit tired, want to watch something with us Olivia?” Mia asks.

“Why not?” Our teacher says, smiling at the aeromancer. “Are you thinking of anything in particular? I do fancy the mystery genre of fiction.” Mia smiles at that. “I have just the thing.” She says, picking up the tv remote and navigating to a crime show that I haven’t heard of. I settle in, cuddling with Paige and my cat, watching the show and spending time with Olivia.

As the evening draws nearer, Olivia bids us farewell for the day and exits the barrier to go home. We keep watching over Skylar, who continues to sleep as the evening rolls by. She wakes up after dinner, and we help her eat some food and drink some water before she passes out again.

By the time we’re all ready to sleep too, Skylar still hasn’t woken up. Ivy, not much needing sleep herself due to being an artificial spirit, watches over her while the rest of us get some rest. I’m a little worried about her, but since she’s had some food and water, and seems to be okay besides her exhaustion, I’m hopeful that today has been really good for her.

When Skylar wakes up the next morning with us, looking and feeling relaxed and refreshed, I’m relieved. Ivy says that she didn’t stir at all the entire night, and was in an extremely deep sleep most of the time. I guess she needed all that rest, and I’m really glad that she’s okay.

Olivia arrives just after breakfast, the same as she did yesterday. After some quick greetings, and Ivy making some tea for our teacher, we sit down at the table to talk about things. “I am glad to see that you are okay dear. I believed you would be, but it is reassuring to see it for myself.” She admits, smiling at Skylar.

The umbramancer, for her part, smiles. “I feel better than ever, to be honest. That training routine yesterday was brutal, but after a lot of rest, some food and water, and the breakthrough I had, I’m feeling incredible!” She says, enthusiastic about everything. “You have silver hair now! That’s really cool!” Mia exclaims and Skylar chuckles.

I smile at the exchange, then turn to Olivia out of curiosity. “Why did that happen?” I ask. I love the change, she looks amazing with silver hair, and if I’m not mistaken, it’s grown even longer than it was before. Previously, Skylar’s hair was just down to the middle of her back. Now, it’s down all the way to her ass. She looks beautiful, but I am curious as to how a jump in power changed her hair colour.

“I do not know. I am unsure if anybody understands the exact reasoning behind why this can happen, it is only known that on occasion, when an individual breaks through their previous limitations and pushes to jump to a new height of power, their physical appearance can change.”

“We know that this change is a manifestation of the magic inside somebody, but we do not know exactly what causes a person’s increased magical might to manifest this way. It does not happen in all cases either.” Olivia says, shooting Paige a reassuring look. She breathes a sigh of relief, and I grin at her reaction.

“I like my black hair. I don’t want it to change.” She explains, and we all smile at her. I turn back to Olivia as she continues her explanation. “A person’s physical appearance can change in terms of hair or eye colour, but sometimes it is even more **** than that.” Our teacher says.

“On occasion, depending on the nature of a person’s abilities, how big the jump in power is, and exactly what they are aiming for, a being can have their entire physical form rewritten in a full transformation. As far as I am aware, this does not happen to humans, unless they have an **** level of power and are specifically willing for it to happen.”

“This is more the domain of gods, goddesses and other magical creatures. It would be incredibly unlikely for something like that to happen to any of you, as we push for higher levels of power from each of you. However, in the cases that it does happen, it usually produces incredible and unique results, and often aids in the application of the new scope of power an individual has access to.” She says.

“A-are you sure that w-wouldn’t happen to us?” Paige asks, uncertainty in her voice. Olivia smiles reassuringly at her. “I am certain. There are those that say that an individual can have control over what their physical transformations may turn out to be, the concept being that these physical transformations are manifestations of an individual’s wish for their body and appearance.”

“Put simply, even if such a transformation were to potentially occur, your own will could and likely would counteract it, if you wished to remain as you are. It is your magic after all, and it does not control you. You are the master of it, not the other way around.” Olivia says. Paige nods, satisfied. “Thank you.” She says, smiling.

Olivia turns to Skylar. “I think the most pressing matter, before we begin to discuss your training today Paige, is that Gemma should use her ‘observe’ spell on Skylar. I think it would be prudent to see how your system classifies her new power levels, and see if you can guess anything about her new capabilities from that.” Our teacher says.

I nod, but shoot a warning to Olivia first. “I don’t know how much I’ll be able to tell about if she’s gained any new abilities. This spell mostly only shows stats and level in regards to power. It’s a decent tool for gathering basic information on how powerful somebody is and what their specialty is with their powers, but it won’t tell me any new abilities that she has.” I clarify. Olivia nods in understanding, and I use the spell.

“Holy shit!” I exclaim, seeing her level and stats. Olivia raises an eyebrow and I send the window over to her. Pointedly ignoring the bit about sexual experience, her expression is even more surprised when she sees what I was talking about. “You said that I was level 64, and you were level 62, correct?” Our teacher asks.

I nod, smiling proudly at Skylar. Olivia flicks the window to the current most powerful member of our guild. Her eyes widen as she sees the level number. “You now have 6 statpoints per level! Most people I’ve seen don’t have that!” I exclaim excitedly, and the umbramancer beams with pride at her new power level.

“Level 76 now. Oh my Gaia, that’s a big jump…” She says, processing that she’s now more powerful level-wise than all of us. “We can test out your new powers in a dungeon today, if you like?” I ask Skylar, and she nods emphatically. “Will I get that powerful too?” Paige wonders out loud, and Olivia turns to her.

“We have no way of knowing. We shall see when you get there.” The lady of the beasts says. Paige nods, looking a little more excited for her training session today. I don’t blame her, if I had the opportunity to grow in power so much, so quickly, I’d be excited about it too.
