Chapter 98

What's next...?
Meanwhile, back at the cabin
Zack was still in a troubled mood, while most of the others seemed to get more talkative once they'd had a couple of beers and settled down by the cosy fireplace. It still looked like they'd be stuck inside for most part of the day, but at least they'd got enough wood to keep the cabin warm during their entire stay.
"Looks like we got a problem though..." He'd just overheard Ashley saying to Heather, as they both returned from the kitchen with another few cans of beer. "We shouldn't have to head back to town and resupply already...?"
"No, you're right." The curvy brunette agreed with her, and looked like she was thinking hard about something. "And it's not a good time for driving either. Not in this weather, and not with everyone already drinking..."
"I've just been sipping from mine, really." Zack offered to them, as he wanted something else to do anyway. "And it's not really raining that much any more."
"Well, if you're offering..." Heather agreed, if somewhat reluctantly. "But I still think we could solve this without sending anyone out in the rain."
"Well, it's for a good cause, right?" Zack tried to joke with them as he pointed to their beer cans, but wasn't so much interested in drinking himself right now.
"True that!" The brunette flashed him a quick grin, but still seemed to think there was a better way to go about it. "We do have my daddy's secret stash as a last resort though..."
"That doesn't sound like a good place to start then!" Both Zack and Ashley laughed at her, but still they followed her curiously when she motioned them back through the kitchen again. "How is it a secret anyhow, if he's been careless enough to tell you about it...?"
"Oh, he didn't!" Heather grinned at them mischievously as she picked up a key from one of the cabinets, and then slipped out the double doors to the wooden deck outside. From there she led them down a short stairway that would be leading them onto the path towards the lake, but instead she turned to a rather insignificant green door that opened up into a cellar-like room directly under the deck and part of the house.
Inside there was plenty of those things that could be handy around a cabin like this - including a portable grill and even a small row boat -, but Heather continued further inside while her friends stopped to check out he various equipment.
"We'll definitively have to try this one out in the lake one day!" Ashley grinned as she was inspecting the boat, before turning to find a couple of fishing poles lined up along the side. "Or maybe not... I'd never get a moment alone with my boyfriend again if he heard about these...!"
"Nothing wrong with fishing, Ash!" Zack smiled at her, but had to agree that Brandon was particularly difficult to drag away from something he enjoyed. "I guess we could find something else to put on the grill though..."
"Oh, here it is!" Heather interrupted them, as she'd been searching some cabinets at the back of the room, and was proud to show them the entrance to an even smaller room beyond the first one. "Exciting, isn't it?"
"Oh, no Heather...!" Zack found himself objecting, with a sudden laugh escaping his lips as he looked around in this other little room, and found the 'stash' she'd been talking about. "You're soooo dead if you even touch your daddy's whiskey!"
"I don't even like the stuff!" She admitted with a mischievous giggle, but still couldn't keep from inspecting the rows of bottles that rested in their wooden stands. "But I told you it's a last resort, right?"
"We're so not drinking any of this stuff...!" Zack just shook his head at her again, but couldn't keep from smiling as he checked a few of the bottles on random, and eventually noticed the box standing against the far wall. "Seems like he got a couple of cheap ones in reserve though..."
"Anything good...?" Ashley surprised them a little as she stepped into the room behind them, and curiously checked out their latest find. "Oh, that's a pretty good one! Even I could drink of that when Brandon's parents invited us over once."
"Sounds like our cue then!" Heather grinned at her, before Zack could start objecting again, and grabbed the bottle from his hands. "Find one more of those, and then we decide if we still need to send someone shopping or no...!"
Shopping or not? What say the others...?
