Chapter 7 by TheTruePenguin TheTruePenguin

Can Our Hero/ Thief Hold out Long Enough to Escape?

Maybe With a Little Help

You panicked, quickly trying to find a route to escape.

First you tried tossing the bag through the barrier, it didn't work. Then you tried to cross the barrier while leaving the bag, same result.

You tried to think of another option quickly, but the advancing guard reached you before you could manage to.

"Surrender thief, or I'll be **** to use lethal ****!" The guard advised as you nervously glanced at him.

No more guards had answered his cry for help... yet, so it would be you versus him as you inched to the side in case you needed to make a break for it.

He was wearing simple leathers, which was still better than you, and his short sword had a longer reach than your dagger.

Seeing no better option, you opted for the element of surprise as you tossed the whole bag of gold to the guard. He apparently wasn't expecting this as he fumbled with the bag for a second, giving you a big enough opening to charge him, pulling your dagger out as you tried to slice open his gut.

His armor caught most of the blade, but some blood was now dripping from the edge, so you hurt him at least. But it was your one chance to finish him off as he dropped the coin purse, swinging his short sword at you.

You ducked, the blade slicing across your back as you winced, but survived.

Deciding that honor was the lesser form of living, you decided to play dirty, slamming a knee into the guard's privates as he wheezed in pain, giving you another chance to end this fight.

Rather than use your dagger, this time you tackled him to the ground, kneeling on his chest as you tried to slam your weapon down, only for the guard to abandon his sword in favor of grappling you, trying to hold you off from killing him... and he was succeeding!

"How are you so strong?" You hissed out through gritted teeth.

"Surrender criminal, or I'll be **** to use lethal ****!" The guard yelled as you held you off with one hand while the other scrabbled in the dirt for his sword. You knew if he reached it, he'd finish you off in seconds, but it was taking your full strength to keep him from throwing you off of him, if you tried to use a hand to stop him, he may very well turn your own dagger on you.

"Please..." You whispered; all you could manage as you saw him grab the pommel of his sword out of the corner of your eye. You desperately tried to throw your full weight behind the dagger, but it didn't work as you squinted your eyes in something between frustration and focus, tears forcing themselves out as you grit your teeth hard enough that you were pretty sure they cracked.

Throwing all caution to the wind, you let go of the dagger, grabbing the other arm only for the guard to throw you off of him, standing not even triumphantly over you, his expression blank as he raised his sword to finish you off.

"You've **** me to use lethal- GAAHHHHH!" He yelled as an arrow blossomed from his chest.

He turned to face his attacker, and your rescuer, "Surrender villain or-" "SHUT UP!" A familiar voice ordered as a second bolt found its way to his knee, dropping him to the ground.

"I've taken an arrow to the knee!" The guard yelled as you scrambled for you dagger, furiously stabbing whatever you could reach, littering his leg and lower torso with wounds.

Looking up at your rescuer, you asked confusedly," Why?"

"Nobody kill you, first me. I keep this!" The angry goblin exclaimed as you pushed yourself up, spotting him clutching your coin purse, and all your gains in one clawed hand. His other was still holding his crossbow, in case you got any ideas about scrapping with him too.

He started walking away, only to glance back at you, "Follow, or I kill you now!" He ordered as you obeyed, slinking after him into a dark alley, making sure to scoop up the guard's sword and miniscule coin purse as you followed.

Moments later, you heard the rapid footfalls behind you, not helping yourself, you peeked around the corner.

A woman was standing there over the dead guard, her blonde hair in a long braid reaching her nicely toned ass, her eyes were a deep turquoise, and she had a cold look in her eyes. She was clad in metal armor, a pair of wings sprouting from her helmet, a cape billowed from her back, and white fur pushed its way out of her armor at every opportunity, including her boots which covered all the way up to her knees. Surprisingly, she had a skirt with metal strips attached, and a gleaming hand axe hanging from her hip.

But what really captured your eye was her chosen weapon, clutched securely in her gauntleted hand, a long spear, untouched by time nor blood with a cream ribbon trailing back down as it fluttered in the nonexistent wind. It ended in a blade, that split off into two more smaller blades, and you knew just by looking at it, that it wasn't only magical, but could kill you at least ten times over just by nicking you.

"Figures, I haven't logged on in nearly two years, and my first day checking showing Jess around, a world quest happens. I don't even know what a world quest is! I don't really care about some pickpocket thief, but... it'll be a good chance to make sure I haven't gotten too rusty... and I can show off how cool I look for Darren! He said he likes the Valkyrie aesthetic!" The girl gave a most unlike her squeal of joy as she hopped in place, before running in the opposite direction.

The Hunt Continues...
