Making it official
“You should get going. The Maou said she would meet you outside the room before you go in,” said Cilla, looking resplendent in her new light grey pants suit. Gob had suggested a skirt but she said it was better for flying in pants and he wasn’t that particular. Now he saw her in it, he liked the way it showed off the shape of her legs.
“Yes, I’m coming,” grumbled Gob as he messed with the tie around his neck. “Where’s Cilla?”
“She’s out buying supplies for the new office. She wanted to be there when the shop opened. Come here.“ Cilla beckoned him down to her and he bent over slightly so that she could fasten his tie for him. Once she had done it she met his eye and blushed a little. She gave him a little kiss on the cheek. “Did I say thank you for my new job?
“You did, several times now.”
“Sorry. I didn’t mind the maid work but this is so much more my style. You know, if you ever need anything from me, you only have to ask.”
Gob grabbed her butt underneath her tail and pulled her into a kiss. “I thought you were supposed to keep me on time,” he said into her ear, her tail began swishing excitedly.
“I mean, you should really go but I’m at your service. I’ll follow your orders.” She was clearly torn between doing a good job and wanting to get railed by the large goblin.
“I’d best not be late but maybe we can pick this up again later,” said Gob.
“I’d like that,” she said and kissed him again before pulling herself off. “You need to go.”
He grinned at her and headed towards his front door. Erryn was cleaning the entryway. “Good morning Mr Gob,” she said with a curtsey, giving Gob a great view of her large cleavage.
“Morning Erryn, and it’s just Gob please, no Mr.”
“Sorry, sir.” She put her hand on her mouth. “Should I not call you sir too?”
Gob’s lip curled in a smile. “I don’t mind that so much but don’t feel obliged.”
Erryn could see why he liked it and she bit her lip before giving him another curtsey and getting on with her work. Gob marvelled at how cute the large woman was.
Gob walked at a pace through the halls of the palace which was quite an intimidating sight for the other people in the palace. Very tall, broad and muscled, Gob made an imposing figure, even in his fine new suit. He was in a rush but he noticed the new reverence that people were treating him with. News had gotten around about his appointment even though it was not yet official and wouldn’t be until this damned council meeting that he was obliged to attend.
Usually, the council met regularly without the Maou to deal with minor issues of state and the running of the palace. Karus was the chairman and there were several other important people there including Rose. It always surprised him how high Rose’s rank was. The head housekeeper seemed such a domestic title but she was actually responsible for nearly all the staff in the palace and she was second only to Karrus when it came to matters regarding the running of the place.
Leaf was waiting for him in a small anteroom to one side of the meeting hall. As they were alone she gave him a kiss before wiping her lipstick off him and examining his appearance. She was in white leggings and a red dress coat that was similar to what she had worn as a man. She just filled out the clothes a little differently. The well-tailored coat cut nicely under her breast, highlighting her assets and, although less obvious, her thighs and behind pressed appealingly against the white fabric. “You look splendid,” she told him. She sighed and straightened herself up, taking on a more formal tone. “In a moment I will tell Karus that I am ready and he will announce me. Follow me a few paces behind and go to the empty chair. Everyone else will be standing. Don’t sit down until Karus says so after I give him the okay.” She patted his arm and tried not to get distracted by the feeling of firm muscle beneath it. “We can get through this.” She was talking to herself as much as to Gob.
She looked away for a moment as she sent the message to Karus. A guard, in ceremonial garb, opened the door and Leaf walked out. Gob dutifully followed behind. A table with a dozen or so people around it. It looked a little odd in the middle of such a large room but the hall was of suitable status for such a gathering. At the head of the table was a throne, slightly raised and set back where Leaf went and sat down. Gob saw his empty chair next to an odd-looking woman. She was simultaneously mature in her bearing and physicality yet her face was strangely youthful. The end result was a little uncanny.
Gob went and stood by his chair, the woman, who he assumed was Lady Impertinence, looked frightened and a little flustered and she struggled to hide it. The looks he was getting from every face around the table were of suppressed disgust. There were two exceptions. Rose, who maintained her cool expressionless look and a true demon in an elaborate military uniform. If he was disgusted, he held it well behind his stoic expression and magnificent moustache. Leaf gave a nod and Karus said, “Be seated,” and everyone sat down.
“Thank you for coming at short notice to this additional council meeting,” Karus went on. “I think we can all tell what matter her magnificence wished to discuss with us all. I, as am sure all of us, are eager to hear what this,” he gestured dismissively to Gob, “is all about.”
“Thank you Karus. Honoured council members, I have created a new office and appointed Gob here to that position. He will be henceforth known as my personal agent.” A small murmur went through the room but it soon stopped as the Maou lifted her hand. “This is a position that will be involved with acting on my behalf in any situation I see fit. He will not be barred from attending any meeting or chamber that I deem appropriate and will be responsible for reporting back to me.”
“Sire,” Interrupted Karus before correcting himself, “Your Magnificence, I must object. You are describing the responsibilities of my office.”
“Calm yourself Karus. I am not taking your job from you. I will still require your dry reports and minutes of the meetings. None of your responsibilities or status are changing. Gob will be giving me more personal accounts of things. Things that may not make it onto meeting minutes and reports. He will also be able to act in my name on more personal matters.”A cough was heard and the Maou’s eyes shot to the offending party who looked like they were about to shit themselves.
“As I was saying. Not all of my business is a matter of state and Gob will be able to act under my authority on those matters. In accordance with my wishes, he is to be granted the required status and privileges of his position and has been given suitable accommodations to reflect this and granted an appropriate stipend. Any questions?”
There was much murmuring and exchanging of glances before Karus spoke up. “Your magnificence, seeing as my peers are so lacking in fortitude to say anything, I will say it myself. I fear you may be making a most inappropriate decision.” Gob could tell that he was picking his words carefully.
“Please elaborate, Karus,” said the Maou, cordially.
Karus looked frustrated as if it should be patently obvious what he was talking about. “I surely need not remind you that barely any time at all ago, this creature was little more than a rat who could clean and now you want to put him on the same level as many of the ancient demon families? It is an insult.”
Gob could see a fire in Leaf’s eyes. She did not like Gob being so badly spoken of. He watched her muster her control and speak in a pleasant but maybe a touch tense, voice. “I am fully aware of Gob’s journey here. I have been witness to a lot of it and responsible for some. I have come to realise that there is some degree of benefit to having a privileged servant in a position of influence who is not one of the great demon families.”
A great debate stirred up. Karus’ bravery motivated some of the more daring nobility to bring up their opinion, even if it was heavily censored through coded language. Gob didn’t give a hoot about what they thought about him. The two people he did care about were Leaf and Rose. Leaf was being diplomatic but defending him all the way and Rose had her fists balled up so tightly that he noticed a hint of blood in her palms from her nails yet her face remained still. He found the military man curious. He hadn’t said a word but regarded Gob shrewdly. Gob couldn’t get a read on the man. He could, however, get a read on the lady next to him.
Lady Impertinence had gone from frightened to curious. He could feel her checking him out. He could also feel her growing arousal but he could feel her trying to resist it. He could sense that she was trying to subdue it with magic but it wasn’t having much impact and she was having a harder and harder time following the debate. From his great height, he had a great view of her matronly bosom rising and falling in her expensive court dress. Gob found this very amusing. He hadn’t really considered how much impact his natural aphrodisiacs had on women, even powerful ones like Impertinence.
“Enough!” The Maou’s voice made the hall rumble. “I have heard your petty quarrels and it has done nothing to persuade me that I am wrong. Gob, kneel before me.” Her voice was commanding but a sweeter voice in his head said, “Come to the throne, bow and take a knee with your head bowed.” He stood, disregarding the rest of the people there and did as she had said. “Present your left hand to me.” The voice in his head said, “Palm up, I am going to alter my seal.”
He offered his hand and imperiously she put her finger to his palm. Dramatic white light shot from his palm and a circular crest, a more detailed and flamboyant than the last one shone on his hand. “Rise and show the council,” she said and Gob did, holding his hand above his head proudly. “Well done Gob, we are almost done. I will have to go and be in charge for a bit but I hope to see you later,” she said in his head and then out loud, “I command you to spread the word to all people under your care of Gob’s new status. He is to be treated with the respect of my office and an insult to him will be an insult to me.” She stood up and began to walk out. Everyone around the table shot to their feet until the Maou had gone.
Karus commanded them to be seated. “You too, Gob,” he said, his tone of voice carrying all the insults it needed to. Gob went and retook his seat and smugly waited to see what would happen. “I appreciate that our meeting was not on the usual schedule but I suppose we should conclude these proceedings in the proper manner,” Karus said. “Personally I would rather get out of here but if there is any other pressing business then speak now.”
The military man stood. “While it may not be of pressing issue just yet I feel the council should be aware that the captain of the palace guard has taken ill and secluded herself away in her rooms. I would not normally bring this up but she is refusing to let anyone see her other than her maid who is letting nobody enter.”
“Lord Commander, this may be unusual but I do not see that it is something that the council needs to discuss. Captain Aki is a good officer but she is hardly irreplaceable. We shall make a note of it and you may fill us in on how you resolve the situation at the next meeting,” said Karus. “Anything else?” He looked around. “Good, meeting adjourned.” With that, he stood up and swept from the room with a stormy expression.
There was a little unease and confusion at the end but others stood up and began to move out. Gob was about to go and speak to the Lord Commander. Aki was in trouble and he wanted to help but before he could make his way to him, a hand on his arm stopped him. “Mr Gob, could you spare me a moment.” The stern voice came from the youthful, doll-like face of Lady Impertinence.
“If you could just bear with me a moment,” he began but he turned to see the Lord Commander had disappeared. He realised that he had a job to do and part of that was making friends. “Ah, never mind. Yes, Lady Impertinence was it?”
“Oh my, you have heard of me,” tittered the unusual woman. Gob used his power on her and one feeling hit him more than any other, vanity.
“Forgive my rudeness, my lady. I was aware of you before my promotion,” he lied. “I had once seen you when I was a lowly servant and I had asked the other servants who that great beauty was, so infatuated was I.”
She positively oozed satisfaction and she giggled and fanned herself. “I must beg your forgiveness now Mr Gob. I do not recall you at all. I think I would have noticed such an imposing and, dare I say, striking figure.”
“Alas, my lady, my current form is quite new. I spent much of my life as quite a small and insignificant fellow until I figured out how to level up.”
“How curious. And how, pray do you level up? Is it so different from the rest of us?”
“Well, there are a number of ways. You may have heard her magnificence mention that she had some part in it. She healed me after a dreadful accident, for which I am eternally in her service, and imparted a fair amount of levels to me by mistake.” It was a half-truth but better that than the fact that the demon lord loved getting her brains fucked out.
“So that is why you are such a loyal servant.” She seemed rather taken with the romanticism of that idea. “I can see a devotion like that being quite powerful but do go on. Is there anything else?”
“This and that. Most of it is not that interesting. There is one that I particularly enjoy though.” He leaned towards her conspiratorially.
Aroused by his presence and very fond of intrigue she leaned forward to listen. “What is that, Mr Gob?”
He looked her up and down as if she was the most gorgeous woman he had ever met and he felt her notice it. “Sex, my lady. Sex,” he said in a low voice close to her ear.
“Mr Gob,” she said with mock outrage. The smile on her face and the flush of her cheeks told Gob that she was not upset in the slightest.
“Forgive me for being so forward but I would beat myself if I did not take the chance on a woman I have so long admired.” He looked around, they were alone. “There is a smaller room to the side there. I would relish the chance to level up a little.”
“Mr Gob I am a lady of high reputation.” She looked around to confirm that nobody was there. “I couldn’t possibly agree to such a brazen offer.” She took his hand and started pulling him towards the room. “I couldn’t possibly allow myself to be defiled by anyone less than a true demon. The idea of being taken by a brutish creature such as yourself offers no appeal to a lady of my calibur.” She was practically dragging him into the anteroom.
