Back to reality?
Lux wakes up alone
Some of the fog still clings to Lux’s mind as she slowly regains consciousness. She finds herself slumped against the cold wall of a narrow passage, next to what she realises is some kind of mechanical hatch. Did she somehow stumble or fall through it when she was trying to escape the gas? How else could she have made it here?
As she stands and stretches her aching back, her hand brushes involuntarily against the skin of her belly, and a warm, cosy sensation flutters deep inside. Her heart suddenly races as she faintly recalls the strange dream she had; when she tries to focus on the details, though, they slip away from her.
She feels faint embarrassment at the idea that she could have such thoughts at a time and place like this…then a brief, icy fear touches her spine as she wonders if something could really have happened. But she’s still dressed – well, as much as she was before – and there’s nobody else around, no sign of a bed. She can’t have been out for that long, after all. No, it could only be a dream.
A vague sense of impending Doom…
