Lunch time

As Heather walked to the door to head back out to the lake, she tossed her phone on the counter. Before she was allowed to step outside, the grandfather clock in the living room began to toll. Heather patted he stomach and moved towards the kitchen.

“Figures. I made breakfast. Now I gotta make lunch too! Oh well. Guess that’s life when you’re hosting the party,” she shrugged as she opened the fridge.

Having made a substantial amount of food for breakfast, Heather decided a light spread of cheeses, smoked sausages, and crackers would suffice for lunch. A few bags of chips and soda would round out the meal.

After setting everything up, the young hostess called her guests to the table. Brandon and Kurt rushed inside soaking wet and almost ran over the poor girl as she started making a plate.

“Jeez, Heather, couldn’t wait for your guests to get settled first? You had to start glomming the food right away?” teased Kurt as Gavin and the girls joined them inside.

“It’s not for me, Smart Ass! It’s for Zack. Gotta make sure you animals leave him something to eat.”

“Law of the pack, dear cousin: Slowest eater starves!” Brandon chimed in.

“Not in this cabin it is!” Heather warned her friend. “I’m gonna check on him again. Ladies, could you make sure the cavemen leave me some food.”

“Gonna give him another ‘Pick-me-up?” Kurt laughed.

“Maybe. You jealous?” replied the angered girl as she moved towards her room.

Not caring to hear her cousin’s response, Heather quietly ducked into her room again. She received no response from her roommate when she tried nudging him awake. She leaned down and whispered to him as she rubbed his cheek.

“Hey you! I don’t know if you can hear me or not, but you need to get better. And real fast. I’ve got plans for you, mister. There’s a special someone who’s waiting to give you her heart. I don’t think it would be very polite of you to sleep through her speech when she’s trying to tell you how much she loves you! And that’s not the only secret you’re going to hear either. So you need to cut out this headache bullshit and get better!” Heather concluded her speech and smiled at the sleeping boy. She then kissed him gently on the forehead and went back to the kitchen.
