You all sit down to eat. Jessica hands her hamburger over to Merry. “Here, take mine,” Jessica says, placing her plate in front of Merry. She then grabs Merry’s plate and hands it over to Olivia. “Here, mom, have Merry’s.”

Merry protests, “why aren’t you eating mine?”

Jessica gives an exaggerated shrug. “If I eat yours, then I will end up eating my own burger.”

“What does that mean?” Merry asks with squinting eyes.

“I made a second burger so the person that got yours can still eat. Mom, give yours to Annabell and then hand me Annabell’s,” Jessica orders.

“Alright,” Olivia replies. She hands out the plates and then smiles at Merry. “Don’t worry. I’m sure it’s good.”

Jessica watches Merry bight into her hamburger. Merry’s eyes grow into saucers. “So good!” she mumbles with her mouth full.

Jessica laughs, “Of course. But what’s with those manners? It’s a disgrace.”

Merry pouts covering her mouth. She looks over at Olivia for redemption. Olivia takes a bite of her burger, and her eyes also bulge. She places the burger down and puts her hand over her mouth, clearly trying to suppress the urge to spit it out.

After she swallows strongly, she weakly says, “it’s… ah … very unique.”

Jessica leans forward with her elbow on the table. She looks like one of those gangster girls from vintage movies. It’s hardly good etiquette. Jessica berates Merry, “Come on. This is why you need me. You don’t understand when people are being polite.”

“That’s not true,” Merry says sadly.

“I’ll translate. Your burger is disgusting,” Jessica explains while grabbing her extra burger. “Here, mom, don’t get sick.”

Olivia guiltily eats her daughter's burger. “I didn’t even think we had raisins,” your sister comments.

“Raisins?” you question. You didn’t put raisins out.

Merry nods. “I thought it might be good. Salt and savory.”

Jessica sighs. “How are you going to live without your mom?”

“I’ll manage!” Merry states emphatically.

Jessica leans back with a smirk. “You guys even called grandma to get rid of Annabell.”

“What are you saying?” Merry retorts in shock.

You cover your mouth, and tears fill your eyes. “Do you hate me that much? Sniff.”

“No, mom. I just want to have some different experiences,” Merry panics.

Jessica twists the knife, “then why is grandma asking our moms to go live with her?”

Olivia grabs Jessica’s hand. “That’s enough!”

“Alright, I won’t say any more,” Jessica says, looking smug.

“I don’t know anything about that. I did mention that we were planning to go to a state university. But I never asked for help,” Merry explains.

“Alright, honey. I believe you,” you say, sniffling.

You finish your meal and hug your sister and niece as they leave. Merry awkwardly goes back to playing, and you sit in your room and look at the app.

“Please save my family!”
