Chapter 6 by Delta12 Delta12

Who is going to win?

Lucas vs Gary (Round 1)

Amber was pacing back and forth, wondering where I was, "Come on, Lucas. It's already been 55 minutes. It shouldn't have taken you this long to get your Pokémon," she said.

"Maybe he has cold feet knowing he would take me on in a battle," Gary smugly said.

Amber turned to him, "He's a better person than you, and he wouldn't run from a fight," she said.

"If he doesn't show up in the next 5 minutes that means he-," "Right here!" I interrupted him talking.

"Took you long enough. I was starting to get worried," Amber said running up to meet me.

"Sorry, I had some last-minute preparation for this battle," I said.

"Sure, sure. That prep won't do you any favors," Gary said.

"We'll see," I replied as he and I moved over to the side of the road to a grassy area and Amber watched us from the side.

"Ready to lose?" he asked.

"To you, no. Alright, let's go, Cinder!" I shouted calling out my Charmander.

"Let's go, Squirtle!" he replied.

"Squirtle, use Water Gun!"

"Dodge it, Cinder, and use Sunny Day!" Cinder dodged the water stream fired at her, then fired a ball of energy from inside her skyward. The ball of energy caused the sun to shine even brighter than before the battle began.

"Like that's going to change anything. Get close and use another Water Gun!" Squirtle did what Gary wanted and this time the Water Gun hit Cinder. However, thanks to her setting up Sunny Day, the power of Water Gun was reduced.

"Hang in there, Cinder. Fight back using Weather Ball!" I knew that Weather Ball was a unique move. Normally, it was about as strong as a standard Tackle attack, but when used with a weather condition up, like the sunny condition, it changes its type to Fire and doubles in power. At that range, Squirtle had no time to dodge the attack. This pushed Squirtle backward and dealt him some major damage.

"Wait a second, Charmander doesn't learn Weather Ball or Sunny Day. How does yours know those moves?" he demanded.

"You're wrong. It may be true that Cinder can't learn those moves naturally. However, using the Sunny Day and Weather Ball TMs, Cinder can learn both of those moves," I explained.

He looked surprised, "How in the world did you get those TMs, they are expensive?" he asked.

"Looks like there are a few things that you forgot about me, but that can be explained after the battle. Let's end this, Cinder, use Weather Ball again," I commanded.

"Counter it with Water Gun!" Squirtle stood up and fired its Water Gun directly at the Weather Ball trying to stop it with no success. Weather Ball blasted through Squirtle's move and knocked it out.

"Looks like I win," I said.

Gary was unhappy about this outcome, "That's not fair. How can you afford such expensive TMs for your Pokémon?" he demanded.

"In case you forgot, my father owns one of the major pharmaceutical corporations. I have millions of dollars in my bank account. I can afford some TMs here and there. Speaking about affording things, I believe this belongs to you," I said transferring some money into his account for defeating Amber.

Gary glared at me, "This isn't over! Not by a long shot!" he shouted as he stormed off to the Lab to get his Pokémon healed. Not wanting to mess with him, I chose to let him be. That was when I noticed Amber standing next to me.

"Thanks for helping me. I didn't want to have sex with that guy," she said.

"Sure, that's what friends are for," I replied.

"Yeah, friends," she said quietly. I was about to ask her what she said before my stomach chimed in with a great growl.

"Well, looks like I burned through that breakfast I had with that battle," I said rubbing the back of my head and giving a small laugh, "So, do you want to come over for lunch before we leave for our journey?"

"I could go for one last meal of your Mom's cooking," she said.

"Char. Char," Cinder spoke up as I looked at her.

"I bet you're tired after our first battle, Cinder. Why don't you rest in the Pokéball until we reach my place?" I suggested. Cinder nodded and I called her back into her Pokéball. With that, I got my first Pokémon, won my first battle, and now I'm heading home for lunch with my friend. All in all, it was an interesting opening to my first day as a Pokémon Trainer.
