On the Road

Lunch at Home

Amber and I started our journey back to my place for lunch, but some questions were still in my head.

"Hey Amber, why did you pick Bulbasaur? You wanted Charmander, so why didn't you pick Charmander?" I asked.

She sighed, "That's because of Blue," she said. I raised my eyebrow at that, "I arrived about 8:15 am, and he was already there with a Pokéball on his bet. He showed up before either of us and picked Squirtle. I got into an argument with him and I challenged him to a battle without thinking about it. So, I chose Bulbasaur, fought against him, and lost. Thanks again for saving me back there."

"Hey, if it means I can humiliate Gary then I'm all for it. I will seriously, never understand why he wants to be called Blue," I said.

"I know, it's so stupid. It doesn't make him sound cool or anything like that," she replied.

"And he gets so mad when you call him by his name," I said.

"Right? Seriously, he wants to be treated like a serious Pokémon Trainer, but he comes off like an immature brat," she laughed.

"I still can't believe he forgot that my Dad owns a pharmaceutical company and I have lots of money from him," I said.

"Well, he doesn't hang out with us a lot. Plus, you and your Mom don't exactly flaunt the fact you are loaded with cash," she replied.

"Regardless of him, we only need to interact with him when he challenges us to a Pokémon battle," I stated.

"Got any ideas on how to build your team?" she asked.

"I have a few ideas of which Pokémon to catch, but I'm getting at least one grounded Poison type to deal with Toxic Spikes," I said.

"You know you can get a Steel type to deal with that, right?" she asked.

"Yeah, but that is just in case I don't have one. What about you? Any ideas?" I asked.

"A few, but I'm going to need to find them first," she said.

"Ah, the joys of a Pokémon Trainer. We know exactly which Pokémon we want. The problem and challenge is finding and raising them right," I replied.

She nodded her head in agreement. As we continued to walk, we jumped from topic to topic. That was when I must have grabbed her hand, "Sorry. I didn't mean to grab your hand like that," I said pulling my hand away, before she reached out and grabbed my arm.

"I don't mind," she said with a smile. Although Amber and I have been friends for years, but have only been boyfriend and girlfriend for about two months, I'm still figuring out what I can and can't do, but it is nice to have Amber close to me like this. We continued our walk back to my place. We didn’t talk to each other, just enjoying our time together. Eventually, we came up to my house and went inside.

“Eevee!” I heard Vivian run up to me and Amber.

“Hey Viv, how’s my favorite little ball of fluff doing?” Amber asked picking up Vivian.

“Hey Sweetie,” I heard my Mom call out from the kitchen. We walked over to the dining room area when Mom turned to look towards us, “Oh, Amber. It’s good to see you again.” She walked to Amber and gave her a small hug to make sure that she didn’t crush Vivian.

“It’s good to see you again,” Amber replied. Mom broke off the hug and moved to the kitchen table.

“So, did you get the Pokémon that you wanted?” Mom asked.

“Not exactly,” I said as I pulled out my Pokéball, “Come on out, Cinder.” The ball opened and Cinder came out. Mom looked surprised.

“I don’t understand, Sweetie. Why do you have Cinder and not Squirtle?” she asked.

“Gary,” I said dryly.

Mom rolled her eyes, “Oh, of course, he would pick Squirtle. He and you have been rivals since you were little kids,” she said frustratingly.

I sighed, “He is regretting it. Cinder and I taught him not to underestimate us!"

"Char! Char!" Cinder chimed in.

"Congrats on your first victory, Sweetie, but I'm assuming you didn't just start a fight without reason," Mom said.

"I fought against Gary before Lucas. I lost and he would have had his way with me if it wasn't for my gallant knight arriving just in time and beating Gary," Amber explained hugging my arm.

"So, I'm a knight?" I joked.

"That's right, and I'm your princess," Anber replied.

"Alright, you two. Now, before you gallivant off into the sunset how about you two can join me for lunch?" Mom asked.

Like clockwork, my stomach, once more growled and I couldn't argue with my stomach. Amber and I sat down for lunch, as Mom entered the kitchen. First, she placed a few bowls of Oran berries on the ground for Vivian and Cinder. Amber also called out her Bulbasaur, who was glad for the meal. I will say this, I'm going to miss my Mom's cooking when I'm traveling. Once we were done with lunch, we placed our plates in the sink.

"Now, if you'll excuse me I need to run some errands?" Mom asked.

"Yeah, sure Mom," I said as Mom grabbed her shoes at the front door, "Now don't do anything too crazy while I am away you two." She gave us a wink before leaving and locking the door behind her. I wasn't sure what Mom was talking about, at that moment in time, as I moved into the living room. As I was sitting down on the couch I saw Amber grabbing her bag.

"Are you leaving right now?" I asked.

"No, I have your birthday present in my bag, but I haven't finished wrapping it. Mind if I use your bedroom to finish wrapping it?" she asked. I kept my room clean so I saw no issue in it.

"Sure you can, but can you give me a hint about what it is?" I asked.

"No. No. It's a surprise, and trust me when I say it is going to enjoy what I got you," she said in a playful matter as she headed upstairs to my room. I turned my head to look at Bulbasaur.

"Do you know what she is planning?" I asked, only for Bulbasaur to tilt its head, "I guess that answers my question." See nothing left to do, I turned on the TV and began my wait.

What does Amber have planned for you?
