Love makes one do stupid things

"You two made that thing." Caroline said to Sarah and Kyle as Shakes hid behind her legs, shivering. "Doesn't it have some kind of weakness or something?!"

"We tried to test to see back when we created her, but she broke loose and caused this whole mess before we could find anything!" Kyle responded.

"We have to come up with some sorta - What the hell is she doing?!" Sarah hissed as she saw Alex steal Caroline's spear and silently stalk towards The Ripper.

"Alex! Stop!" Caroline shouted quietly, "Get back here!"

"I'm not letting that monster kill the one I love!" Alex snapped back quietly, ignoring the pleas of the other three.

The Ripper stared intently through the window of the freezer door, causing Jane to shiver at the bloodthirsty predator staring her down. Suddenly, the beast looked up and tilted it's head before walking away.

Jane let out a sigh of relief as she sat down on the floor, a nervous laugh escaping her lips. "That was a clo-"

*ROAR*

Jane instantly got to her feet as she looked through the window at the last second, seeing The Ripper leap through the air and push open the small vent above the door...

Which clattered on the floor in front of Jane inside the freezer, the woman looking up to see the top half of the predator's body halfway through as it tried to climb its way in.

"GO AWAY!" Jane shrieked as she grabbed piece of rotting food and threw it at The Ripper, the beast merely snarling in response. Jane let out a whimper as the cat-like monster continued to climb through the vent, only to let out a surprised yowl.

"Get away from her, you bitch!"

"Alex?!" Jane gasped, looking through the window. Sure enough, she saw that Alex was standing there with Caroline's makeshift spear. Looking up, she gasped again as she saw The Ripper slink back through the vent and jump down, turning to face Alex with a snarl.

"I've been waiting for years to tell that beautiful angel in there how I really felt, chickening out at every last second until she kept seeing every man and woman who gave her their phone number." Alex growled back, facing the snarling apex predator head on while pointing the spear at it. "And I made a mistake that I regretted with every fiber of my heart and soul, and I committed the worst sin imaginable: I broke her heart! That Lust Musker spray may have messed with my brain, but my heart was always in control at that moment on. And now, I intend to right that great sin I committed. And if I have to pay for it with my very life..." She glared The Ripper down, "Then so be it!"

The Ripper roared, extending it's hood as it charged forward, Alex dodging the attack. Frightened as she was, she was not gonna let this thing harm Jane! With a yell, Jane thrusted the spear forward and poked the spear into The Ripper's eye, the beast letting out a pained roar as it swiped...

Snapping the spear in two as she shook her head, closing her eye as she snarled up at Alex.

"ALEX! RUN!" Jane yelled from the freezer, watching as the other woman did so, the now partially blind predator chasing after her towards the living quarters of the building.

"Jane!"

Jane looked up as she saw Caroline, Sarah, and Kyle running up to the door of the freezer, the former holding Shakes to her chest as Sarah opened the door. Once open, Jane broke down into tears as she hugged Caroline.

"This is my fault!" Jane bawled, "I should've known she wouldn't lie to me! And know she... She's... Oh, Carol! I've killed her! She asked me to marry her, and I killed her!"

"Not exactly..." Sarah began, getting everyone's attention. "The Ripper is the apex predator on this island, but even with it's spliced DNA, it's still a cat with human intelligence. And there's several things that cats and humans have in common; in this case, toying with their victims. I can't tell you how many times Kyle and I saw The Ripper slaughter our coworkers after being lulled into a false sense of security."

"Then what are we standing around for?!" Jane shouted. "Let's save Alex before that thing gets any ideas!"

"But what about the radio?" Kyle asked.

"Are you seriously -"

"I'll go!" Caroline volunteered, holding Shakes tightly. "You three go rescue Alex! I'll radio for help!"

"Are you sure you know how to use it?" Kyle asked.

"My Grandpa used to let me play with his radio when I was a kid." Caroline said. "He taught me how to operate one."

"Fine! Caroline, the radio is right down that hallway next to the lab." Sarah said, pointing down a hallway that was in the opposite direction Alex and The Ripper had gone in. "Jane, Kyle! The three of us are going to save Alex!"

"Hang on, Lexie Baby!" Jane screamed as she ran in the direction Alex and The Ripper ran in, a fully armed Kyle and Sarah behind her.

Caroline and Shakes headed towards the hall that led to the radio when she immediately came to a stop, a look of surprise on her face.

"Alex asked Jane to do WHAT?!"
