Postscript by Cardinal Velius: "Unlike fair Claudia, who was chosen by Jaris precisely because she was a more-or-less average woman in all respects except her natural beauty and innate goodness of heart, Sterling has been revealed to be what we might call a 'superior specimen' by the Brotherhood of Numerology. Though she was apparently lanky and boyish in adolescence, she has filled out nicely, and although she still cuts a slim figure compared to voluptuous Claudia, every movement that Sterling makes simply oozes sensual grace. She could have been a legendary dancer, but she seems to prefer fighting. Sterling has proven herself to be a champion duelist in the fencer's ring - and unlike most female practitioners, she does not shy away from using her fists, knees, or even her forehead. She has a violent disposition, romanticizes combat, resents any attempts to control her, and, my servants inform me, has made a habit of looking for trouble all around St. Marmelise, going into places she really ought to know better about solely for the opportunity to 'defend herself'. Because of her many advantages (after all, only the most cold-blooded man could bring himself to mar such a beautiful body, and even the blackest-hearted cutthroats could easily see the rewards in taking her unharmed - and in any case, her lavishly expensive gear is formidable) she has come to believe herself to be a far more experienced and proven warrior than she actually is. In truth, she is still a pampered noble girl at the end of the day, and I question if she has the steel or the killing instinct that she would need in the Sisters of Holy War. On the other hand, I think I shall entertain her interest at least long enough to see her try on the Sisters' new, more enticing vestments...
