Chapter 9 by Mike the Red Mike the Red

Look around the gate.

As I approached the gate, it was clear that it had a numeric keypad that operated the mechanical winch, pulling the gate out of the way. Though, after looking at the gate for a moment, I decided that the gate must have had some sort of counterweight inside the wall to the right which allowed it to be raised and lowered easily, like the teeter-totter that Mira and I could never use together, due to our age difference. Furthermore, it was obvious that whatever locking mechanism the gate once had was broken, meaning that I could probably lift the gate with a light push, a speculation that I tested and confirmed a moment later.

"Huh, some security," I opined to myself, but dismissed it as even the illusion of a private neighborhood was likely to keep people out.

Stepping under the gate, I let it swing back down gently and headed off down the road to find Tiffany's beach house. Unfortunately, I had Jack and Shit for cell reception, so I couldn't call my sister to let her know I was here.
