Little Girl

Amy sat down at the dining table with a sigh. Her father sat opposite her, and then asked "So, do you wanna talk?"

"I'm fine Dad. Really."

"Okay. Look, I just wanna say I'm not sure you should be watching those kinds of videos."

"You're afraid I might see car crashes, aren't you?"

Spencer gave his daughter an empty stare as he tried to process what she had said. Whilst he'd had that very thought, the bluntness of her statement hit him like a hammer. Eventually, he stammered "Well, that and... you know those videos can be violent. I'm just not sure someone your age should be watching them, okay?"

"Okay Dad."

"I'll support you no matter what, okay? I love you, sweetie."

"I know Dad." Amy flashed a nervous smile. "I love you too."

"You got homework?"

"Yeah." Amy sighed. "Me and my big mouth."

"And who's to blame for that?"

Her mouth crumpled up with frustration. "Guilty as charged."

"Right. I'm going to the study. Got a uhm... assignment to do."

"Sure Dad."

Upstairs, Spencer decided to call Evelyn for a second opinion, figuring she'd know how to deal with the situation.

"Hey Spence. How's it going?"

"Uhh, good. Umm... just wanted to talk."

"You sound nervous. Everything okay?"

"I guess. It's just Amy."

"Amy? What happened?"

"She's been watching bodycam footage."

"Okay. What of it?"

Again, Spencer found himself taken aback. "Well, I'm not sure those are you know, appropriate."

"If she's interested she's gotta learn about the good and the bad." Evelyn stated. "She's not always going to be your little girl Spence."

"I know... it's just... whatever. How was your day?"

"Pretty good." Evelyn shut the bedroom door behind her. "Little lonely though."

"We'll try and fix that tomorrow."

"Mhmm, looking forward to it, Tiger."

"Anything else?"

"No, not really. So, see you tomorrow?"

"Hoping so."

"See you Spence. Love you."

"Love you too."

Evelyn then hanged up, leaving Spencer to dwell on what his little girl was growing into.
