Chapter 7 by crunchyspag crunchyspag

Which sounds best right now?

Let's visit Sonya

Pursuing leadership of the Confederation is a top priority, which means securing Jan's vote. You decide with Dietrich that you should see to courting Sonya. You begin packing for the trip. It is not a long way, only about a week's ride in a carriage if even that much to the mountainous borders and fertile valleys of the Bohii.

Relations between your two peoples are decidedly mixed. The proximity between you has meant that in everyday life your nations are close trading partners, which is true to today. However, your nations have also clashed repeatedly in the past as each vied for power. Your own kingdom, once merely a duchy, came out ahead in the long run. Now, things have been peaceful for many years, but lingering resentments remain. How exactly you will win over the elector, Jan the Terrible, you have no idea yet.

The trip is short and uneventful, as expected. Your procession crosses through the the last mountain pass of the trip, and from the high vantage point your get an excellent view of the Boii capital, Praha. Supported through trade and the valuable silver mines of the Boii, Praha has emerged as a leading center of culture and politics in the Confederation. Tall spires from the hilltop castle and cathedral stick out like pikes, marking the skyline which is partially obscured by smoke from the busy workshops below. A broad, muddy river passing the city on the west is the source of its life. In no time you shall trade the bumpy mountain roads for the limited but high quality pavement the city is famous for.

You reach the castle gates soon enough. The guards let you pass, no doubt having been given word of your carriage being sighted in the mountains. You exit your carriage once you get inside the castle grounds, eager to stretch your legs. Their weakness is not just from the ride, however. Duke-Elector Jan is an infamously intimidating man under any circumstances. But the courting of his youngest daughter? You can't imagine this going perfectly smoothly.

What's next?
