Chapter 4
by Jizzrar
Which race shall we look into?
Kobolds
Diminutive offspring of the Drakson race, they are truly tragic creatures. For whatever reason, the Dragonkin species are cursed to have seemingly indefinite entropy of magical presence in their bloodline. The more generations there are, the less potent the magic within their blood. The inevitable conclusion seems to be the Kobolds, a race of draconic runt men that have virtually no magical connection in their blood, unable to perform any magic of any kind. So much so, that they don't even possess any magical breath effects common to Dragonkin. It is due to this last bit, that they are treated as lesser beings, even lower than animals, by their parents and masters, the Draksons. It is so much so, that if anyone were to find out that your clutch of eggs gave birth to a Kobold, a huge stigma would be placed against you and many draconian, brutal measures would be used against you in the futile hope that future birthings of Kobolds would be prevented. Thus, it is common that many Kobold hatchlings are tossed away subtly and never mentioned, covered up completely. Due to this, many Kobolds who were birthed by Draksons don't truly know who their parents even are, relying on other Kobolds to look after them.
It is thanks to that, the Kobolds are actually incredibly communal and social. Despite the rough treatment they are given by the others in the Tribunal, the Kobolds view every single other Kobold as brethren. You will never find a bond stronger in the whole world than the bond between Kobolds trying to survive together. One would even say that thanks to this seemingly natural bond that all Kobolds share, that the more Kobolds there are, the stronger they become, as they seem to have some sort of sixth sense about them makes them unable to perform truly herculean accomplishments and seemingly work with a sort of synergy never before seen. Even the Draksons have noticed that and tend to organize Kobold slums and military units to be under careful watch and heavily separated.
The appearance of a Kobold is a very short humanoid figure. Imagine the size equivalent of a Dwarf or a Goblin, but with draconic features. They have thick scales that provide natural armor, a lizard-like tail, some short horns that decorate the corners of their heads, reptile eyes, and the draconic face with a point snout and sharp edges. However, another added point of contempt towards the Kobolds is the fact that they have mighty wings that allow them fly...a trait that the Draksons are missing, and are thus jealous of.
Their status in society results in them not even being considered citizens of the Tribunal. They are more like slaves, to be used for hard labor and unglamorous roles in combat. Though they are also believers in the faith of worshipping their Dragon ancestors, they are not even allowed to work rules within the faith, they are barely even allowed to visit the tombs of the Dragons or visit any of the other sacred sites. There is instead a separate area outside of these places for Kobolds to gather together and offer worship...heavily monitored, of course.
Many Kobolds have tried to escape the Tribunal to start their own societies, but it is unknown what the fate of these attempts are. Several have been captured in their escape attempts and heavily punished. The rest? Well, if any were to survive then they are good at hiding, as there are many threats that would prove fatal to a small gathering of weak, tiny creatures without any magic and very limited combat prowess to have to deal with.
In relations to the other races within the Tribunal, there is a shared contempt between the Kobolds and the Draksons, with feelings between the two being very, very tense. However, they share in the worship of the Wyrmlings as the true inheritors of the world from their Dragon ancestors, while the Wyrmlings see the Kobolds only as useful bodies to accomplish many dangerous tasks.
They hold no political power, with no representation in the Tribunal itself. Ownership of the Kobolds is shared between two of the three seats of power with the Kobolds only considered as easily disposable resources.
