This is a Monster Girl Encyclopedia fanfiction.

Angel / Demon

Since times immemorial, every age has seen the rise of a Demon Lord with powers beyond comprehension, bending the wills of the monsters of the world to his and controlling them through fear.

Since times immemorial, whenever humanity was driven to the precipice of annihilation through the monsters that preyed on them, a Hero of justice was selected by the Chief God to take upon himself the wrath of the Demon Lord and smite him. The Demon Lord's forces, liberated of the fear that united them, turned their ferocity on themselves in pursuit of power. Thus was humanity given respite from the terror of which to it was subjected, and was given time to recover and prosper.

This age however saw a different development.

This era did see come to pass, like in every era before, a Demon Lord rising to power; but not through **** or subjugation but through the voluntary acceptance of monsterkind throughout the world. And she did rule the monsters of the world, but not through fear but through love and compassion.

This was the first Demon Lord of the succubus race, and as the Demon Lord is connected to all monsters through their vital energy, all monsters contained the vital energy of the succubus, and would assume the form of attractive women, like a succubus would.

No longer did the monsters of the world seek to kill humans for sustenance. Instead they drew their sustenance from humans through a bond of love. In turn that bond strengthened the human who was the subject of their love, and could give more sustenance to her making her stronger.

This was something to which the Chief God could not abide.

This era did see come to pass a Hero of justice selected by the Chief God to combat the threat the Demon Lord posed to the natural order of things. However this too did not go quite the way it always had.

One morning the abbot of the Religious Chivalric Order of Ledforne found on the steps of the order's headquarters a basket containing an infant child. An existence unwanted and undesired by his own birthparents, with nowhere else to turn him to and no one else to accept him, the abbot took him into their chivalric order and raised him as their own.

As it turned out the child had an easy time learning the skills of their knights, had a natural sense of compassion and justice and had a stubborn side as well. As a member of a religious chivalric order he was made to study scriptures like how a monk would, and displayed focus and interest in the topic. He always had questions for the abbot, about what he had learned of the Chief God and her teachings, and the abbot always had answers, and was willing to talk about them in vivid detail. Of course, the young man never quite seemed to grasp what those answers entailed, the words seemingly going over his head, but with such esteem did he hold the abbot and with such confidence and passion did the abbot talk about the subject that he always considered his inquiries satisfied at the end of their exchanges.

And so the child matured into a man. One day the heavens above themselves appeared to split, opening a rift to a heaven far brighter and glorious than the one on which it imposed. From there an angelic woman with three pairs of wings and beauty and grace out of this world descended before him and spoke; "Rejoice, my humans, for I am your highest and most exalted god. I had promised a Hero to rid the world of the threat of the Demon Lord, and you have been waiting patiently. Rejoice, for today I will keep the promise. This man is the Hero we all have been waiting for. He shall receive my blessing and take upon himself to slay the Demon Lord with his blade."
And so the young man became the Hero of this age. His conviction became the bedrock of his training; his blade was meant to be wielded for justice and against the enemies of mankind. Never was he to use his sword against a human, and throughout his life he never did.

But this generation of monsters turned out to be stronger and more dangerous than any before. Monsters had strength and magic far beyond what humans could hope to muster, so he knew in order to defeat these foes he had to draw on something new. What he found was the gift of 'empathy', which allowed him to quickly learn and understand those he was fighting, predict their moves before they had made them and always lay one step ahead. This weapon served him well in many intense battles and afforded him victories that otherwise would appear hopeless.

And so came the day when the forces of the Order of the Chief God rose up against Royal Makai wherein the Demon Lord held residence, focusing her forces against the siege they mounted against the capital while the Hero's party snuck past the city walls and towards the Demon Lord's Castle.
For a full three days they travelled with no sleep or rest, and without seeing the rays of the sun. Their mage had transformed into a monster girl, and their youngest member who was quickest on his feet was caught by a dragon and seen no more.
Only the Hero and his oldest and closest friend kept moving against the wind and towards the stronghold of all monsters. His name was Henry. He was over 230 pounds of pure muscle, and his height made him stand out even amongst the warriors he commonly associated. He was clad in the best and most reliable full plate armour money could afford, yet he was driven to tears and fell on his knees.
"...I'm sorry... I'm so sorry... I can't go on any longer! These girls are so strong... there are so many of them and they... they just keep coming without fear or fatigue! I know... I know we have to keep going... they... they rely on us... they sacrificed everything so we could get going... but how? How can we face the Demon Lord and expect to win? How can we maintain our faith after everything we have seen? I don't want to... I don't want to do this anymore! I can't do this anymore... I failed you.... I failed everyone!"
The Hero rested his hand gently on Henry's shoulder and gave him a reassuring smile, "You have fought well. Leave the rest to me."
Henry burst out in tears and clenched his fists against his knees, "You... thank you... just... give her one... for me... won't you?" Even through his sobbing he managed to return the smile.
As the soldier walked back to safety he looked back towards the Hero, now alone yet as determined as he was strong. Henry hesitated for a moment. The Hero's words had made turning back harder, not easier... but he realized there was nothing he could do to aide him in his troubles.
Like all other humans, he had to rely on him... hope in him.... believe in him.
"When this is over... drinks are on me..." Henry turned away and went back to the Orderite camp.

The Hero faced the rest of the trials of the Demon Realm alone.
Nonetheless, he did storm the Demon Lord's Castle, and the doors to the Demon Lord's chamber opened up. There she sat on her throne at the end of a long, dark hallway.
"So the Hero of Justice finally arrived." she spoke.
"I did. You know what we must do?"
"Of course, but do you?"
"There is only one thing that could happen, when a Hero meets the Demon Lord. That which had occurred every time a Hero has met a Demon Lord in all eras."
The Demons Lord chuckled "You really are a stubborn one... but I have been watching you, ever since your journey began. You draw your strength not from crushing your enemy under overwhelming ****, but by understanding the ones you fight."
"That's right. It's the one recourse at which humans excell over monsters."
"So tell me, what have you come to understand?"
"Monsters... They are indeed as powerful and ferocious as I have heard. Not all of them seek the same thing, and those that do may seek a different path to achieving that same thing. But they all share the trait of loving someone so deeply that it hurts, or the desire to be loved. They are never cruel and they never hurt humans... Instead they dedicate their lives towards loving the human to whom their hearts belong."
"Just as I thought." The Demon Lord snapped her finger and the curtains unfolded, revealing rows of monsters, dozens of them, of various races standing in row, "These are all monsters you have fought, and defeated by your blade, yet all of them stood to walk again. How is a Hero supposed to slay the Demon Lord, who cannot even kill one of her subordinates?"
"So what? You are going to lord over me your awesome power, and how naive I am to try and fight you with my level of strength?"
"We both know the reason they lived after facing you was not because you are weak... But because you sympathize with them. You have grown. The weapon you relied on was used on monsters to understand them, but you never used them on humans... in the end, they were the ones you never understood."
"Ugh... you... You are wrong. I still believe in humans... But I believe in monsters too. I believe one day, humans and monsters will live together."
"I believe that too. I love humans... So very much. And it broke my heart I was born as a monster, whose purpose is to betray humanity and bring about their destruction. That's why I became the Demon Lord, to bring about the dawn of a new age where humans and monsters live together in peace."
"But monsters need human men to reproduce, and can only give birth to monsters. In your world the human women will transform into monsters one after another, and the children born of human men will all be female too. One day only female monsters will be left, and no more humans or monsters will be born. Your age will be the last of this world."
"So it seems. Yet I will not give up this path and return to the old way." The Demon Lord rose from her throne and descended the stairs towards the Hero, "You know what we must do then?"

The Hero pointed his sword at the Demon Lord, "Yes... I know what we must do. He sheathed his sword and knelt down, "I will join you... I will help you bring about an era where humans and monsters can live together in peace... to change the nature of the world so as to allow humans to be born from monsters."
The Demon Lord laid her fingers on the Hero's head and gently lifted him up to his feet, "I have watched you for long time, Hero. And I have come to realize that I love you, more than any human. More than I thought it was possible to love anyone." Their lips joined together as they kissed.

The End!
